Matisse Networks EtherBurst® Obtains NEBS Level 3 Certification

Matisse Networks, pioneer in the field of Optical Packet Transport systems, announced that it has received NEBS Level 3 Certification from MET Laboratories, Inc for its EtherBurst® products. The NEBS Certification demonstrates Matisse Networks’ continued commitment to the service provider market and enables the equipment to be deployed in central offices.

Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) testing is required in the U.S. for equipment operated in carrier networks. To obtain NEBS Level 3 Certification, the EtherBurst product portfolio was subject to extensive testing covering Ambient Temperature and Humidity, Equipment Handling, Resistance to Fire, Earthquake Survivability, Vibration, Airborne Contaminants, ESD, Emissions, and AC Power Fault. Complete compliance to all NEBS specifications ensures that the equipment being deployed is acceptable for use in service provider central offices.

Craig Easley, Vice President of Marketing for Matisse Networks said, “NEBS Level 3 is the highest level of conformance to the NEBS specifications and we are extremely proud that the EtherBurst Optical Packet Transport system has successfully completed this rigorous suite of tests. The certification demonstrates our commitment to providing high quality, ‘carrier-class’ products for the telecommunications industry.” Easley continued, “In addition to the basic NEBS Level 3 tests, our products were also tested for conformance with the AT&T and Verizon NEBS test extensions.”

About NEBS

Network Equipment Building Systems describes the typical environment in a United States telecommunications carrier’s central office. NEBS was developed by Bell Labs (now Telcordia) in the 1970s to standardize equipment to be installed in a central office. The purpose of the testing is to ensure personnel safety, environmental compatibility, protection of property, and minimal service interruptions to the operator during the product’s lifetime. NEBS testing is required in the U.S. for equipment operated in carrier networks.

One of the cloud’s biggest draws is the capability to virtualize computing resources, allowing it to be consumed with the click of a mouse. But behind that simple click is an enormous infrastructure challenge that has recently been cited as a major cause for slower enterprise adoption. Enterprises can better prepare for this shift and take full advantage of future computing benefits. Between architecture design and migration planning, the road can be long, so what do you do with your talent? I...
In the old world of IT, if you didn't have hardware capacity or the budget to buy more, your project was dead in the water. Budget constraints can leave some of the best, most creative and most ingenious innovations on the cutting room floor. It’s a true dilemma for developers and innovators – why spend the time creating, when a project could be abandoned in a blink? That was the old world. In the new world of IT, developers rule.
