Google-Yahoo Deal Reportedly Doomed

Companies are likely to pull out of their controversial revenue-sharing pact

The Deal has been talking to lawyers close to Google and Yahoo and says that the companies are likely to pull out of their controversial revenue-sharing pact ahead of the Justice Department challenging them on antitrust grounds, a move that others say could come in the next 24 hours.

The Deal says Assistant Attorney General Tom Barnett met last Friday with Google and Yahoo attorneys for the second time in two weeks and that "the bottom line of the meeting was grim."

"Nothing good came from it," said one of the unidentified lawyers.

The DOJ could file suit asking for a preliminary injunction barring Google and Yahoo from implementing the 10-year agreement that is supposed to deliver a life-saving $800 million to Yahoo year-one. Yahoo cut the Google deal to avoid Microsoft.
