Lightstreamer Server v.3.5 has been publicly released and will be showcased at the AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2008 West in San Jose (October 20-22, 2008).
Lightstreamer is an all-round solution to push real-time data to any type of application through the Internet. Implementing the Ajax/Comet paradigm, Lightstreamer can update any Web page without downloading anything on the client machine. Mobile browsers and Flex, Java, and .NET clients are supported too.
The new version of Lightstreamer includes several new features, many of which have been derived from customer feedback in the field, mainly in the finance and gaming verticals, where Lightstreamer's presence is well established.
“This is an important milestone in the history of Lightstreamer”, said Alessandro Alinone, CTO and original creator of Lightstreamer, “The very first release dates back to 2000 and in these eight years the product has incessantly evolved. Lightstreamer's robustness, stability and performance have been validated through many years of production deployments in mission-critical scenarios”.
Lightstreamer Server v.3.5, together with updated versions of all the development kits, includes a larger set of pre-installed sample applications, to improve the developers' learning curve. It is now possible to access multiple data feeds from the same application, thanks to the support of multiple Data Adapters. A typical example is a stock portfolio, where updates to the contents of the portfolio (what securities are contained) are pushed by a data feed, while updates to the market prices of such securities are pushed by another data feed. This “two-level pushing” is now natively supported by the Lightstreamer libraries.
Other improvements regard the capability of pushing data under any adverse network condition, through any kind of proxies and firewalls, to any type of clients. This is achieved through some sophisticated heuristic algorithms, which dynamically throttle the data flow and switch the transport layer based on the external conditions.
Lightstreamer is available in four editions, ranging from community to enterprise, and can be freely downloaded.
