Hyper9 Unveils Key Virtualization Product Architects

Jim Snyder and Brian Baker Share Large Roles in the Development of Hyper9's Virtualization Management Solution

On the heels of emergence from stealth mode, Hyper9 revealed the identities of two key product architects. Hyper9 search guru Jim Snyder and data aggregation expert Brian Baker share large roles in the development of the company’s recently announced virtualization management solution.

“The management challenge of virtual infrastructures is rooted in information complexity. The amount, distribution and transient nature of management data is unprecedented, and can only be tamed via a search platform and advanced data aggregation techniques,” said Chief Product Officer, Ben Rouse. “Jim Snyder and Brian Baker bring industry-recognized expertise in both areas to the virtualization management domain.”

Jim Snyder, Ph.D., is a search expert with 25 years of experience architecting and developing complex infrastructure technologies. Prior to Hyper9, Snyder created search-oriented intellectual property and led development of the search platform at 21st Century Technologies. He also created the analytics/reporting platform at Core Metrics and the web-based configuration platform at Trilogy, where he served as principal architect.

“Virtualization is a critical enabler for the on-demand services that are changing the face of computing,” said Jim Snyder. “Coupling advanced search technologies and virtualization in a systems management context is intriguing, but not just in an end-user context. The business model flexibility offered by a search platform is equally compelling for vendors who strive to serve a dynamically changing marketplace.”

Brian Baker is a seasoned entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience creating and delivering enterprise infrastructure solutions. At Hyper9, Baker focuses on the data collection, aggregation and management activities needed to fuel the search engine. Previously, Baker served as a principal engineer at United Devices which was acquired by Univa. Prior to that, Baker founded Journee Software, a real-time enterprise data hub solution which was acquired by Initiate Systems.

“Data powers search engines, and in the virtual infrastructure world it’s all about management data,” said Brian Baker. “Virtual machines can be cloned and relocated from one physical host to another with no perceived cost. To effectively manage performance, availability and configuration challenges, a whole new approach to the ‘data source of record’ problem is required.”
