Analysts estimate 80 percent of today's virtualized environments run on VMware technology. However, that landscape will shift over the next 12 to 18 months as more powerful processors, competing hypervisors, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and cloud computing take hold. Virtualization management will need to address heterogeneous environments that combine any number of different software and infrastructure platforms.
