Red Hat Launches JBoss Operations Network 2.0

The Release of JBoss ON 2.0 Represents Continued Momentum for the Enterprise Acceleration Initiative

Red Hat announced the release of JBoss Operations Network (ON) 2.0, an integrated middleware management platform that simplifies application development, testing, deployment and monitoring. The release of JBoss ON 2.0 represents continued momentum for the Enterprise Acceleration initiative announced earlier this year, which is aimed at fostering adoption of JBoss Enterprise Middleware by increasing its capabilities for large-scale enterprise use. Available in modular format, JBoss ON 2.0 provides organizations with an end-to-end application management solution to coordinate the many stages of the application lifecycle and improve operational efficiency through a single integrated tool.

“Our customer base is getting more sophisticated and specialized within their IT Operations environments when it comes to middleware management,” said Katrinka McCallum, vice president of Red Hat’s Management Solutions Business Unit. “We developed the JBoss ON platform to improve efficiency for IT Operations staff while reducing the total cost of managing JBoss middleware environments and driving higher value for end-users.”

Built upon modularized components, JBoss ON provides centralized management for the entire JBoss Enterprise Middleware portfolio, including inventorying, administration, deployment and updating of JBoss-based middleware applications. JBoss ON provides enterprises with an extensible and customizable application management toolset combined into a single platform-based solution.

Using JBoss ON server and agents, enterprises can:

  • Remotely deploy certified content from the JBoss Customer Support Portal
  • Auto-discover resources that span from the operating system to the application
  • Centrally control and audit application configurations to standardize deployments
  • Manage, monitor and tune applications for improved performance and availability
  • Capture, trend and share operating and performance metrics for each resource

JBoss ON delivers on the promise of Enterprise Acceleration – to expand the availability of enterprise-level capabilities and advance the growth of open source middleware in organizations,” said Craig Muzilla, vice president of Red Hat’s Middleware Business Unit. “This solution gives our customers the ability to manage and monitor their enterprise middleware implementations, helping to keep deployment and management costs remain low without sacrificing quality.”

JBoss ON 2.0 expands upon the features of previous versions, and includes new capabilities designed with enterprise-class applications in mind. JBoss 2.0 offers appealing functionality for the enterprise, including:

Completely new agent with full command-line interface with remote agent configuration; Extensible APIs for interoperability; and True SSL encryption and authentication for bi-directional server-agent communications.
