Appcelerator Integrates RIA Platform with Google App Engine

Open Source Provider Gives Software Developers a Way to Create Applications and Then Deploy to New Google Platform

Appcelerator announced that it has updated its platform to allow applications built using Appcelerator to be deployed to the free new Google App Engine. Used together, the offerings give developers a fast route to developing, deploying, managing and scaling their applications.

Appcelerator is an integrated platform that fuses RIA and service-oriented architecture (SOA). With Appcelerator, developers can assemble rich, interactive web applications without the need for JavaScript or player-based plug-ins. Web applications can be implemented on Java/J2EE, PHP, Ruby, .NET, Python and Perl. Appcelerator for App Engine runs on Python, the scripting language currently supported by App Engine. As Google expands support to other languages, Appcelerator for App Engine will follow suit.

App Engine has generated so much interest since its April 8 introduction because it fundamentally extends the concept of a hosting facility—now developers and software organizations only need to manage code. By giving developers access to the Google cloud—including hardware, operating systems, application servers, databases, routing, configuration and other technologies—and making it available on a massively scalable and redundant infrastructure, Google goes far beyond other offerings.

“The launch of Google App Engine is an exciting moment for software developers and will unquestionably be a benefit to the open source Appcelerator community,” said Jeff Haynie, co-founder and CEO of Appcelerator. “Our platform enables developers to create rich Internet applications without regard for the backend necessary for deployment and App Engine is guided by the same philosophy—remove the need for developers to deal with the serverside and allow them to put together outstanding software.”

CloudEXPO Stories
Industry after industry is under siege as companies embrace digital transformation (DX) to disrupt existing business models and disintermediate their competitor’s customer relationships. But what do we mean by “Digital Transformation”? The coupling of granular, real-time data (e.g., smartphones, connected devices, smart appliances, wearables, mobile commerce, video surveillance) with modern technologies (e.g., cloud native apps, big data architectures, hyper-converged technologies, artificial intelligence, blockchain) to enhance products, processes, and business-decision making with customer, product and operational insights.
At CloudEXPO Silicon Valley, June 24-26, 2019, Digital Transformation (DX) is a major focus with expanded DevOpsSUMMIT and FinTechEXPO programs within the DXWorldEXPO agenda. Successful transformation requires a laser focus on being data-driven and on using all the tools available that enable transformation if they plan to survive over the long term. A total of 88% of Fortune 500 companies from a generation ago are now out of business. Only 12% still survive. Similar percentages are found throughout enterprises of all sizes.
CloudEXPO has been the M&A capital for Cloud companies for more than a decade with memorable acquisition news stories which came out of CloudEXPO expo floor. DevOpsSUMMIT New York faculty member Greg Bledsoe shared his views on IBM's Red Hat acquisition live from NASDAQ floor. Acquisition news was announced during CloudEXPO New York which took place November 12-13, 2019 in New York City.
