EMERYVILLE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/27/08 -- BigFix, Inc., a leader in real-time IT security and management solutions for the distributed enterprise, has added Microsoft Windows Server 2008 to the list of operating systems supported by the BigFix Discovery 7 platform and associated solution modules and extensions. This means BigFix can consolidate security and system management processes for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 systems with a wide variety of computers running Microsoft Windows, UNIX, Linux, Mac OS, and VMware ESX through the BigFix Discovery 7 platform.
"BigFix is committed to partnering with Microsoft as well as other third party platforms to make its solutions compatible with its customers' systems," said BigFix president and CEO Dave Robbins. "This is particularly important now as the IT community redoubles its efforts to simplify, consolidate, and cut IT service delivery costs in an uncertain economic environment."
BigFix support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is the result of close cooperation between BigFix and Microsoft. "Our interaction with Microsoft on Windows Server 2008 support has been quite productive," said Gregory Toto, BigFix vice president of products and operations. "BigFix and Microsoft engineers worked side by side as early as last fall to ensure BigFix's compatibility with Windows Server 2008, and as a result BigFix is one of the first applications ready for the new software."
Adding Microsoft Windows Server 2008 support to the BigFix Discovery 7 platform aligns with BigFix's strategy of providing customers with deep, pervasive visibility and control over as many enterprise hardware and software platforms as possible.
"Visibility is crucial to staying ahead of the game in lowering security risks and optimizing infrastructure productivity," says Toto. "You can't manage, optimize, or protect what you can't see. Adding Windows Server 2008 to the roster of BigFix-supported Windows, Linux, Unix, mobile and virtualized platforms is one way we give our customers added assurance that they can see and manage everything of importance in globally distributed infrastructures from 1,000 to 100,000s of computers."
"We are excited to have the support of BigFix who have invested in ensuring their solutions are ready for Windows Server 2008," said Joseph Landes, director of Windows Server product management at Microsoft. "Windows Server 2008 represents a huge opportunity for the ISV community, and we are delighted to see the significant momentum and support from a broad range of ISVs."
Consolidated Real-Time Visibility and Control in Heterogeneous Environments
The BigFix technology architecture implements a distributed single-agent, single-infrastructure approach to enterprise-scale security and systems management. The BigFix Discovery 7 platform is a lightweight, easy-to-deploy, real-time visibility and control infrastructure that provides the foundation for BigFix products. The BigFix solutions now compatible with Windows Server 2008 include Asset Discovery, Software Distribution, Software Inventory, Vulnerability Management, Security Configuration Management, Patch Management, Power Management, AntiVirus, Anti-Spyware, Endpoint Firewall, Remote Desktop, Hardware Provisioning, and Network Access Control Support.
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is designed to power the next-generation of networks, applications, and Web services. With Windows Server 2008, companies can develop, deliver, and manage rich user experiences and applications, provide a secure network infrastructure, and increase technological efficiency and value. Windows Server 2008 builds on the success and strengths of its Windows Server predecessors while delivering valuable new functionality and powerful improvements to the base operating system.
