Progress Software has upgraded its SOA-based semantic integrator for communications service providers.

Progress said DataXtend Semantic Integrator 8.3 will enable service providers to synchronize distributed data with change data capture (CDC) functionality to determine when data has changed in a database. It provides data interoperability for SOA environments.

It said it also reduces the time and cost of integrating operational support systems (OSS) and business support systems (BSS), and uses a common model to mediate the differences between the data models of applications and services

Progress said that when deployed within an organization's enterprise service bus (ESB), it provides non-intrusive CDC at the data source. It synchronizes with the master data and applies the identified changes to target databases in the appropriate formats. It currently supports Oracle databases as data distribution sources.

Ken Rugg, vice president and general manager of DataXtend, said: "Service Providers are using SOA for the agility to roll out new revenue generating services quickly in a heterogeneous environment while evolving their systems to adopt more off-the-shelf software and reduce redundancy. The common model approach along with change data capture gets the data where it needs to be, in the format the application requires."
