Gates: Yahoo! "Should Take a Hard Look" at the Microsoft Offer

"We sent them a letter and said we think that's a fair offer," Redmond's czar says

"We sent them a letter and said we think that's a fair offer," Bill Gates has been telling the Associated Press, referring of course to the February 1 proposal Microsoft made to the Yahoo! board of directors to acquire the company for $44.6BN. Gates made the comments during a conference call to announce free access to Microsoft developer tools for students.

"There's nothing that's gone on other than us stating that we think it's a fair offer," Gates continued. They should take a hard look at it."

In other Microsoft-Yahoo! news yesterday, Reuters and the Wall Street Journal both made mention of how Yahoo!'s Chinese partner, Alibaba Group, may try to block Microsoft's hostile takeover of Yahoo!

The Alibaba Group is 39% owned by Yahoo! and has has "hired advisers to help it negotiate for expanded management independence" if Yahoo! is bought out by Microsoft, says the WSJ.

Vista is not worth the upgrade yet. I bought a new system with Vista installed and it had issues with video and sound drivers. I managed to find an video driver that worked after trying 2. The audio drivers don't work at all. I tried to use the onboard sound as well as a PCI card with no luck. I tried 3 drivers from Microsoft, 2 for the PCI card and 2 from the computer manufacturer all with no luck. I hope my copy of XP gets here just as fast so I can actually use it.

CloudEXPO Stories
DXWorldEXPO | CloudEXPO are the world's most influential, independent events where Cloud Computing was coined and where technology buyers and vendors meet to experience and discuss the big picture of Digital Transformation and all of the strategies, tactics, and tools they need to realize their goals. Sponsors of DXWorldEXPO | CloudEXPO benefit from unmatched branding, profile building and lead generation opportunities.
Enterprise architects are increasingly adopting multi-cloud strategies as they seek to utilize existing data center assets, leverage the advantages of cloud computing and avoid cloud vendor lock-in. This requires a globally aware traffic management strategy that can monitor infrastructure health across data centers and end-user experience globally, while responding to control changes and system specification at the speed of today’s DevOps teams. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Josh Gray, Chief Architect at Cedexis, covered strategies for orchestrating global traffic achieving the highest-quality end-user experience while spanning multiple clouds and data centers and reacting at the velocity of modern development teams.
Disruption, Innovation, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Leadership and Management hear these words all day every day... lofty goals but how do we make it real? Add to that, that simply put, people don't like change. But what if we could implement and utilize these enterprise tools in a fast and "Non-Disruptive" way, enabling us to glean insights about our business, identify and reduce exposure, risk and liability, and secure business continuity?
The deluge of IoT sensor data collected from connected devices and the powerful AI required to make that data actionable are giving rise to a hybrid ecosystem in which cloud, on-prem and edge processes become interweaved. Attendees will learn how emerging composable infrastructure solutions deliver the adaptive architecture needed to manage this new data reality. Machine learning algorithms can better anticipate data storms and automate resources to support surges, including fully scalable GPU-centric compute for the most data-intensive applications. Hyperconverged systems already in place can be revitalized with vendor-agnostic, PCIe-deployed, disaggregated approach to composable, maximizing the value of previous investments.
