AJAXWorld: Forget "Mashup 1.0" (Excel + E-Mail), It's Time to Move to Mashup 2.0

John Crupi Gives General Session at AJAXWorld 2007 West on Empowering Business Users with Enterprise Mashups

How do I integrate Xignite's Web services with my trading app? Can you integrate my sales data with our SAP client? How can my partners get access to my data? How do I join the data in these two portals? These are the kinds of questions being asked of IT by users every day. And the answer is usually negative. So how can we help users within a business take information and create something on their own?

This was the crucial issue addressed by JackBe CTO John Crupi this morning at AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 West.

What most business users have been doing for years, Crupi said, is to resort to Excel, create a spreadsheet and then e-mail it their colleagues. Let us call it "Mashup 1.0" - but that, he contends,

"About the most inefficient thing you could possibly do with information," Crupi lamented.

Enter "enterprise mashups" - using the browser as the application container. If you are sharing information in an enterprise you need to know about security and governance issues, which is where the web-based application container that JackBe has pioneered, the Presto Enterprise Mashup Platform, comes in.

A demo followed in which JackBe showed the crowded room JackBe's "Wires" composer tool and live a mashup service was created.
