JetBrains Releases IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 Milestone 2

M2 introduces Maven integration, access to the Groovy and Grails plugin

“Milestone 2 showcases a major feature set of the upcoming new version,” said Sergey Dmitriev, JetBrains CEO, “and judging by the feedback from our Early Access Program (EAP) members, IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 is going to be another big step forward for IDEs.”

JetBrains has announced the general availability of Milestone 2, another step forward on the path to version 7.0 of its Java IDE (integrated development environment), IntelliJ IDEA.

With Maven integration, access to the Groovy and Grails Plugin (JetGroovy), and the new visual Dependency Structure Matrix (DSM), Milestone 2 is worth looking into. The DSM is interesting for anyone who wants to explore dependencies between program parts (modules, classes, etc.), letting you spot potential problems at the top level and then drill down to individual details.

The productivity-enhancing features and improvements introduced in this release include improved Java EE support, automated refactorings, code analysis, version control integrations, debugging, search, usability, and performance.

Other notable feature highlights are:

  • Enhanced Spring AOP, Hibernate and JPA support
  • Better Hibernate–Spring integration
  • More flexible Version Control operations with ClearCase UCM and Perforce offline mode, plus improved change list management
  • Multiple new refactorings
  • Revamped project configuration with automatic Facet detection and upgrade from earlier versions

The latest build and more detailed information about all the new features can be found at http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/nextversion/index.html?m2pr.
