In mid-May it said 40 million copies had been sold to date.
The news comes against a backdrop of Acer president Gianfranco Lanci complaining to the German edition of the Financial Times Monday that "The whole industry is disappointed with Windows Vista" because people aren't buying new computers just to run it and Microsoft CFO Chris Liddell confessing last week when Microsoft reported its earnings that he's budgeting for more sales of XP than previously expected.
He had been expecting Vista to claim 85% of the mix. Now he's pushed the number down to 78%.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Thursday also put out a press release bragging that Office SharePoint Server had generated $800 million worth of business in the fiscal year that ended last month, a growth rate of 35% over fiscal 2006. Microsoft described itself as having "been blown away by its phenomenal success."
