Kevin Hoffman's BlogJust thought I would send up a quick post to let people know that I've just tried out Meebo on my iPhone. It takes a few seconds to get signed in, but once you're in, it's actually quite nice. Single-click a buddy to open a chat window with them. Double-tap the blue screen region to zoom out, then you can double-tap the newly opened buddy window to zoom into that region. Once you're zoomed in there you can use the on-screen keyboard (I switch to landscape mode for this because the keys are slightly wider in landscape mode). click the "Go" button to send your text.
If you've got multiple conversations open, just double-tap the blue region of the web page to zoom out, then double-tap on your target conversation window to zoom in. It's a "decent" experience right now, which is to say, awesome because it's the only one available that actually works.
In time, I am hoping that Meebo will build in some code that detects the mobile Safari and gives me a presentation more tailored toward the iPhone model... but the bottom line is that one of my biggest pain points (lack of IM) is now solved. I have relatively few complaints about the iPhone now.
Oh, and speed is completely fine on EDGE. Really, you can't tell the difference between the time it takes to send an IM over EDGE compared to 3G/EVDO, it's just a couple bytes.
