Ericsson has signed up to co-develop and then license an open source Java-based multimedia application server from Sun and contribute parts of it to the open source GlassFish project.
It's also supposed to license the Java System Application Server to embed in solutions and standardize development of applications and services on the so-called Java System Communications App Server that Sun expects will result.
Developers are supposed to get access to telecommunications technologies for developing multimedia, VoIP, instant messaging and next-generation applications. There will be a NetBeans module to support the Communications Application Server at some point.
