SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/27/07 -- Media Machines, Inc., a leading provider of 3D virtual worlds software and services for the Web, today announced the final release of their new software tools, Flux Player 2.0 and Flux Studio 2.0.
Flux Player 2.0 is an award-winning and open source Web browser plugin (1.5MB) for viewing and playing real-time 3D content and virtual worlds in Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. Flux Player 2.0 works with Windows XP and Vista and now supports streaming audio and video, including mp3, mpg, wmv, and avi files. Flux Player 2.0 now also supports 2D Layers, allowing for the creation of graphic overlays such as heads-up displays (HUDs) widely used in game and virtual world user interfaces.
Flux Studio 2.0 is a 3D authoring application for creating virtual content, worlds, games and gadgets. New to Flux Studio 2.0 is the ability to import Google(TM) Earth (Google Sketchup & 3D Warehouse) files in their native KML file format. Once imported into Flux Studio 2.0 you can add animation and Javascript interactivity before adding the 3D content to a Web page. With the Flux Player 2.0 Web browser plugin, anyone on the Web can view and play with your virtual content in real-time 3D.
Other new features in Flux Studio 2.0 include: Cubic environment maps, which allow content creators to make realistic lighting and reflection effects; Extruded text for easily creating and animating 3D text; Import and export of Avatar Studio 2.0 avatars for use in multi-user worlds; a Prototype object editor for making reusable and self-contained smart objects (geometry and scripting); and a Script editor which allows programmers to write Javascript for advanced animations and interactivity. Flux Studio 2.0 also supports a number of third-party utilities for converting Autodesk 3ds and Maya, Unreal game levels, and other industry-standard X3D format models and scenes.
"The new versions of Flux Player and Flux Studio represent the next important step in our promise to deliver tools to build an open, multi-user, Web-based metaverse," said Tony Parisi, Media Machines CEO. "With Javascript programming, Google Earth import and easy authoring, now anyone can create and deliver rich virtual worlds on the Web using Flux software."
Media Machines has developed an Ajax 3D mash up using Google Earth 3D buildings, Flux Player, and Web-based Google Maps. This mashup can be viewed at www.mediamachines.com/maps.
Flux Player 2.0 and Flux Studio 2.0 are free for private and educational use. They are now available for download at www.mediamachines.com.
