"2007 is shaping up to be even bigger than last year," predicts AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 (East) technical chair, Dion Hinchcliffe (pictured). "An even larger, more general audience is developing interest in the possibilities of applying Web 2.0 patterns and best practices deeply into the core of their products and services both existing and new," he adds. In 2006, Hinchcliffe contends that harnessing collective intelligence via network effects and feedback loops became generally understood as the dominant design element of the Web 2.0.
"This was palpably reinforced by new and old companies alike including YouTube and MySpace gaining market dominance over industry leaders in just a score of months while Google and Amazon continued to use their years old network effect advantage to maintain leadership in their sectors," he says, adding:
"It seems clear that users, businesses, and other organizations that deeply embrace the fundamental nature of the Web as a communications-oriented platform without any single owner except all of us, will be the only ones able to fully exploit the possibilities for online applications"Much of this entire story," Hinchcliffe cntinues, "was driven directly by the increasing scale, size, speed and interconnectedness of the Web, making it easier than ever to reach out to tens of millions of potential users practically overnight via the 1 billion-plus users that reside there in the biggest single marketplace in history."
Hinchcliffe, who is president and CTO of Hinchcliffe & Company, is technical chair of AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 East. He is also editor-in-chief of AJAXWorld Magazine
A veteran of software development, he works with leading-edge technologies to accelerate project schedules and raise the bar for software quality. He is highly experienced with enterprise technologies and designs, consults, and writes prolifically. Dion actively consults with enterprise IT clients in the federal government and Fortune 1000 and is a frequent speaker on AJAX, Web 2.0 and SOA.
At AJAXWorld 2007 (East) in New York, his own session will be on "Web 2.0 Mashups: Moving Toward Monetization" - in which he will explore how you can let your users generate your content, then expose it all up via an API, and still make a profitable business.
"It's like walking a tightrope, but companies that have been diligently exploiting open APIs such as Amazon and Salesforce are in fact generating significant revenue and second-order effects from opening up their platforms while being careful not to lose control," Hinchcliffe notes.
His session, he says, will make copious reference to real-world examples of how companies are applying innovative ways of generating revenue with Web 2.0 applications and open APIs and he will discuss three tactical means for generating revenue: advertising, subscriptions, and commissions - and a series of strategies that can support them.
Hinchcliffe's session will form part of a 2-day track, one of six at AJAXWorld, devoted to Web 2.0 issues and techniques delivered by such Next-Generation Internet luminaries as Steve Rubel, Stowe Boyd, Hooman Radfar, Yuval Tarsi, Dean Allemang, Dustin Whittle, Coach Wei, Troy Angrignon, and Alex Barnett. Typical of the coverage was the story from ADT Magazine, whose John K. Waters wrote, in a report titled "Nexaweb and JackBe Take Web 2 to the Enterprise": "Last week's AJAXWorld Conference and Expo ... had the feel of an early JavaOne - which is to say, the place was positively quivering with possibility."
At AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 East, delegates will hear and learn not only the history, process, and inspiration behind AJAX, they will also be helped to design actual AJAX applications using JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), the Document Object Model (DOM) and XMLHttpRequest Object.
Delegates can hand-pick sessions from six tracks pitched at a a variety of levels from Beginner to Advanced. Rather than staying at the platform-agnostic level, developers and IT professionals will find among the 100+ sessions at AJAXWorld real-world examples in all the main server-side technologies such as PHP, Java, .NET and ColdFusion.

Hey Tom: Wikipedia editors are famously reluctant to allow neoligisms into the database. The term Enterprise 2.0 went through this routine earlier in the year but got put back on due to popular outcry. But the Wikipedia deletion isn't valid in the end. Web 3.0 is just beginning to take shape and they should allow it in the spirit of intellectual exploration for sure. |

I was going to provide a link to Web 3.0 and just noticed that Wikipedia has deleted the Web 3.0 article and protected it so that it can not be recreated. I wonder what was there? I think the history has even been expunged |
