Riverbed Helps Aura Light Employees Be More Productive by Accelerating the Delivery of Mission Critical Apps Including ERP and CRM

Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ:RVBD), the leader in application performance infrastructure, today announced that Aura Light, a Swedish lighting manufacturer, is using Riverbed® SteelHead™, the #1 WAN optimization solution, to further its centralized application strategy by accelerating key enterprise applications such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) for 250 employees throughout Europe. Before deploying SteelHead, these applications ran slowly, getting in the way of more efficient work.

Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, sustainable lighting company Aura Light has 250 employees at a manufacturing facility in Sweden and subsidiaries and local sales offices in many European countries. To improve IT manageability, Aura Light centralized all of its applications to an outsourced data center several years ago. Centralization, however, dramatically slowed the performance of certain applications to the point that they were nearly unusable at some remote sites.

“I wanted to look at the root of the problem and fix that,” said Peter Lindgren, who took on the role of IT manager at Aura Light after the centralization project was completed. “One option was to add more systems to the Citrix farm but I wanted to get away from that and just focus on the issue that was affecting the users. And I wanted to create a stage that would allow us to implement new systems, whatever they are, and have them work well right away.”

Lindgren turned to Riverbed with support from Curitiba, a Riverbed channel partner in Sweden, to configure and install six SteelHead appliances at remote sites and seven in the data center. Aura Light also purchased 50 SteelHead Mobile software licenses to give its sales teams the same high level of application performance that office workers experience.

Users in remote locations now access mission-critical and everyday applications in about half the time. The change means less frustration and higher productivity for everyone. Moreover, Aura Light achieved these benefits at a low cost by renegotiating the company’s network bandwidth contract for 35% less. “Using Riverbed resulted in happier users and higher performance, and we were able to cover a large portion of the cost by reducing what we pay the WAN supplier,” said Lindgren.

The SteelHead solution has eliminated employees’ concerns with centralized software, allowing Aura Light to take advantage of enterprise applications such as SuperOffice CRM. It also provides Aura Light with a foundation for the future. Previously, Lindgren felt his technology choices were constrained by poor application performance over the WAN. “Now I have the freedom to implement new solutions for the business, such as a new ERP system, knowing the speed will be fine.” Lindgren added, “We had been saying to employees, ‘Things will get better,’ but they never did, until we put in SteelHead.”

Riverbed SteelHead and the Riverbed Application Performance Platform™

Riverbed SteelHead is the industry’s #1 WAN optimization solution that helps IT ensure optimal service levels for applications among data centers, branch locations, cloud networks, and end users. SteelHead, further, allows IT to prioritize delivery of mission-critical applications over the best available network with customized per-application service level agreements (SLAs). The technologies behind big data and cloud computing are converging quickly, offering businesses new capabilities for fast, easy, wide-ranging access to data. However, to capitalize on the cost-efficiencies and time-to-value opportunities of analytics in the cloud, big data and cloud technologies must be integrated and managed properly. Pythian's Director of Big Data and Data Science, Danil Zburivsky will explore: The main technology components and best practices being deployed to take advantage of data and analytics in the cloud, Architecture, integration, governance and security scenarios and Key challenges and success factors of moving data and analytics to the cloud
The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications. Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers. It was one of the first and best-known examples of projects that make containers truly useful for production use. However, more recently, the container ecosystem has truly exploded. A service mesh like Istio addresses many of the challenges faced by developers and operators as monolithic applications transition towards a distributed microservice architecture. A tracing tool like Jaeger analyzes what's happening as a transaction moves through a distributed system. Most DevOps journeys involve several phases of maturity. Research shows that the inflection point where organizations begin to see maximum value is when they implement tight integration deploying their code to their infrastructure. Success at this level is the last barrier to at-will deployment. Storage, for instance, is more capable than where we read and write data. In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 20th Cloud Expo, Josh Atwell, a Developer Advocate for NetApp, will discuss the role and value extensible storage infrastructure has in accelerating software development activities, improve code quality, reveal multiple deployment options through automated testing, and support continuous integration efforts. All this will be described using tools common in DevOps organizations.
Dynatrace is an application performance management software company with products for the information technology departments and digital business owners of medium and large businesses. Building the Future of Monitoring with Artificial Intelligence Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like "How is my application doing" but no idea how to get a proper answer.
