How Educators Can Access $2 Billion in K-12 Technology ConnectED Commitments

RSVP to SETDA's Back-to-School Webinar, September 11 at 2pm ET

WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwired) -- 08/18/14 -- The State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA), the principal membership association representing U.S. state and territorial educational technology leaders, announced today it is accepting RSVPs to a free, back-to-school webinar it is hosting on Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 2 - 3:15pm ET to describe how U.S. K-12 educators can access the $2 billion in donated and discounted educational technology being made available under President Obama's ConnectED Initiative.

ConnectED is intended to enrich K-12 education for every student in America by leveraging the power of technology for learning, including through public-private partnerships with leading technology companies. To date, the President has announced that ten companies have pledged $2 billion in support toward advancing ConnectED goals. SETDA's work is designed to highlight these commitments and help ensure that students and teachers most in need of support benefit from these unprecedented public-private partnership offerings. Participating companies include: Adobe, AT&T, Autodesk, Esri, Microsoft, Prezi, Safari Books Online, Sprint Corporation and Verizon.

During this webinar, each ConnectED company will have an opportunity to describe their ConnectED offerings and provide any updates on how educators and school leaders can take advantage of their programs. Ample time for participant questions will follow, and the event will be archived and made publicly available as a service to the K-12 community.

Richard Culatta, Director of the Office of Educational Technology at the US Department of Education will make opening remarks.

"Calligo is a cloud service provider with data privacy at the heart of what we do. We are a typical Infrastructure as a Service cloud provider but it's been designed around data privacy," explained Julian Box, CEO and co-founder of Calligo, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 21st Cloud Expo, held Oct 31 – Nov 2, 2017, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
In his session at 21st Cloud Expo, Michael Burley, a Senior Business Development Executive in IT Services at NetApp, described how NetApp designed a three-year program of work to migrate 25PB of a major telco's enterprise data to a new STaaS platform, and then secured a long-term contract to manage and operate the platform. This significant program blended the best of NetApp’s solutions and services capabilities to enable this telco’s successful adoption of private cloud storage and launching of virtual storage services to its enterprise market.
When building large, cloud-based applications that operate at a high scale, it’s important to maintain a high availability and resilience to failures. In order to do that, you must be tolerant of failures, even in light of failures in other areas of your application. “Fly two mistakes high” is an old adage in the radio control airplane hobby. It means, fly high enough so that if you make a mistake, you can continue flying with room to still make mistakes. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Lee Atchison, Principal Cloud Architect and Advocate at New Relic, will discuss how this same philosophy can be applied to highly scaled applications, and can dramatically increase your resilience to failure.

"The track has been designed in experience/degree order," said Schmarzo. "So, that folks who attend the entire track can leave the conference with some of the skills necessary to get their work done when they get back to their offices. It actually ties back to some work that I'm doing at the University of San Francisco which creates an "Outcomes-Centric Business Analytics" degree." Bill Schmarzo, author of "Big Data: Understanding How Data Powers Big Business" and "Big Data MBA: Driving Business Strategies with Data Science" is responsible for guiding the technology strategy within Hitachi Vantara for IoT and Analytics.
