4,800-Employee Restaurant Franchisee Leverages Ultimate Software’s UltiPro for Human Capital Management to Cut Employee Turnover, Increase Strategic Insight

Ultimate Software (Nasdaq: ULTI), a leading cloud provider of people management solutions, announced today that Carlisle Corporation, a leading Wendy’s franchise operator and real estate developer with more than 4,800 employees, is leveraging the cloud-based UltiPro solution to measure turnover rates and increase employee retention, improve compliance reporting related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and strengthen the security and accuracy of its employee information.

Carlisle Corporation is a specialty hospitality company that focuses on developing franchises and real estate development. Its wholly owned subsidiary Wendelta, Inc. is a leading Wendy’s franchise operator with more than 134 restaurants in the U.S. and with revenues that consistently rank in the top tier of the Wendy’s system.

Before switching to UltiPro, Carlisle Corporation had been using a number of HR and payroll systems that required redundant data entry, delivered incomplete reporting, and lacked the resources and tools needed for configurable workflow and roles-based access. After a rapid deployment, Carlisle Corporation went live on UltiPro in 2010, and HR Director Steve Hoffman has seen higher levels of productivity and performance across the company.

“As our business has expanded, we’ve learned to work smarter and more effectively while managing a significantly higher volume of work. Ultimate is providing the right technology to help us achieve our business goals,” said Hoffman.

“With UltiPro, we have created HR dashboards that deliver real-time metrics to our vice presidents, managers, and financial teams. One of the critical metrics we measure in UltiPro is employee turnover, which can be very high in the quick-serve restaurant industry. With UltiPro, we’ve identified trends that affect turnover and then taken proactive measures to retain our workforce. All in all, our turnover has decreased by more than 60%. Plus, with UltiPro’s suite of features for talent acquisition, we've seen immense improvements in the quality of our talent pool. These dramatic improvements are making a deep impact to our company's bottom line and to the quality of our services to our customers.”

In addition to improved business intelligence and recruiting, Carlisle Corporation has improved its ability to manage compliance, specifically related to recent changes with healthcare legislation.

“We have instant visibility with the reporting in UltiPro to stay compliant with the Affordable Care Act, quickly tracking who is eligible for and needing to enroll in the range of benefits we offer,” said Hoffman. “Given the complexities of the ACA, we felt some uncertainty about how we were going to make sure our business stays up-to-date with the necessary compliance, and then we were very relieved to find this report already available and ready in UltiPro. Having UltiPro has been a lifesaver for our business, especially when helping us simplify intricate ACA reporting."

As a result of using one cloud solution for its people management processes, Carlisle Corporation has been able to automate and consolidate many of its processes; provide employees with 24-7, direct access to their personal information; increase cost and time savings by reducing paper usage; and strengthen its security through roles-based access.

“UltiPro has made our work easier and more effective, and we have removed a range of obstacles and burdens, including having to maintain the custodial responsibility of our HCM information. With our previous paper processes, we had to manage storing the information, disposing of the information, and ensuring correct access to information — all with security concerns in mind,” said Hoffman. “Now we are protected with sophisticated security, and we don't have the previous worries that can happen with papers being left on copiers or available in unlocked file cabinets. UltiPro has been excellent for compliance, quality control, and risk and cost reduction. We are very pleased with the many business advantages that Ultimate is providing to us.”

“One of the many strengths of UltiPro is that it simplifies the range of complexities related to people management, and the Carlisle Corporation is an outstanding success story that illustrates the power of our unified HCM solution,” said Greg Swick, chief sales offices at Ultimate Software. “We are thrilled that UltiPro is making a critical contribution to this expanding restaurant company by providing instant access to real-time, powerful business intelligence and delivering new channels for strategic insight.”
