Ultimate Software’s UltiPro Helps Diverse Businesses Put Their People First with Unified Human Capital Management

Ultimate Software (Nasdaq: ULTI), a leading cloud provider of people management solutions, announced today that several dynamic businesses, such as Hunter Douglas, Wawanesa Insurance, and ESL Federal Credit Union, are leveraging the UltiPro solution to better manage their dispersed workforces, unify HCM-related processes and reporting for strategic benefits, and improve employee engagement through a streamlined onboarding experience.

Hunter Douglas

Hunter Douglas, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Hunter Douglas NV, manufactures and sells innovative, high-quality window coverings and architectural products, distributed through a large network of independent retailers, that are found in millions of homes and commercial buildings around the world.

Previously, Hunter Douglas had been using a legacy mainframe system that required multiple logins, reconciliation, and significant manual support and data entry. Due to acquisitions, the company has expanded to more than 6,000 employees in North America and numerous FEINs, and as a result, the global manufacturer’s separate divisions need the ability to process their own payroll using independent rules, pay frequencies, accruals, and more. Hunter Douglas selected Ultimate’s UltiPro to address these HCM-related complexities and went live on UltiPro in January 2013.

“With UltiPro, our teams are operating more efficiently and improving our people management at a global level. One of the biggest wins with UltiPro is that it gives us higher levels of both control and flexibility. Each of our divisions can process its own payroll when needed as well as apply their own business rules and benefits choices,” said Mindy Fabrikant, vice president of human resources at Hunter Douglas. “UltiPro is unique among past technologies I have used. Its flexible, robust functionality will be especially valuable as we continue future growth.”

Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company

Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company, one of the top 10 property and casualty insurers in Canada, is leveraging UltiPro to improve efficiencies in its business processes, generate valuable information for strategic decision-making, and meet the needs of its multilingual employees since going live on UltiPro in 2009.

“Because UltiPro is one centralized solution that offers comprehensive capabilities for HR, payroll, benefits, and talent management, we have seen big improvements across our business. For us, it’s all about having one version of the truth, one source of data, and now we don’t have to spend our efforts in having to integrate and reconcile information from multiple systems," said Jodi Carradice, vice president of human resources at Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company.

"Having our employee data in sync across all of our locations enables us to have a complete picture of our workforce and, as a result, we can make more strategic decisions that are impacting our overall business. Plus, one of the critical advantages for us is having options for different languages that support our French-speaking employees. UltiPro has been critical in connecting all of our people, regardless of location or cultural preferences. Our executives definitely have seen the HR team move from an administrative department to much more of a strategic partner to the business.”

ESL Credit Union

Headquartered in Rochester, NY, ESL Federal Credit Union is a full-service financial institution with $4.3 billion in assets and 310,000 members worldwide. Prior to switching to UltiPro in 2005, ESL had been using a service bureau as well as using manual methods to handle its HR processes, including onboarding. Since moving to UltiPro, the organization has transformed its people management processes, simplifying the onboarding experience for employees and administrators.

”Previously, the foundation of our employee onboarding was a large paper packet that contained multiple forms for the employee to complete, which was costly to print and ship,” said Lisa McLaughlin, total rewards manager at ESL Federal Credit Union. “After the employee received it, we had to sit with each employee to review the documentation, collect signatures, and manually enter the data into multiple systems. With UltiPro, this information is available before our new hires walk in the door, and we have eliminated a massive amount of paper usage, meetings, and duplicate data entry. In addition to the cost savings and time savings, our onboarding experience is much smoother for employees, and we have seen seeing higher levels of engagement. Our HR team is much more efficient, and UltiPro provides us with easy tracking and reporting.”

Because ESL has automated the onboarding process with UltiPro, those outside of HR who need to prepare for the new hire can be instantly notified so that the logistical details are completed before he or she arrives for the first day of work. ESL has set up task notifications based on roles, which ensures a documented, repeatable process — eliminating the need for HR to ‘chase down’ colleagues and vendors to confirm that the new hire will be properly provisioned. “There has been so much we have been able to improve for ESL with UltiPro,” said McLaughlin.

“Having easy-to-use, person-centric technology available to employee, managers, and executives is an absolute must for businesses of all sizes and in all industries — especially ones that have a diverse workforce in many locations. By providing businesses with one single solution, UltiPro can dramatically accelerate and improve processes, provide more control and flexibility to HR teams and managers, and deliver a tremendous impact to the overall business,” said Greg Swick, chief sales officer at Ultimate Software. “Hunter Douglas, Wawanesa Insurance, and ESL Federal Credit Union are outstanding examples of how our cloud technology for HCM is delivering dynamic business outcomes.”

Companies are harnessing data in ways we once associated with science fiction. Analysts have access to a plethora of visualization and reporting tools, but considering the vast amount of data businesses collect and limitations of CPUs, end users are forced to design their structures and systems with limitations. Until now. As the cloud toolkit to analyze data has evolved, GPUs have stepped in to massively parallel SQL, visualization and machine learning.

Organizations do not need a Big Data strategy; they need a business strategy that incorporates Big Data. Most organizations lack a road map for using Big Data to optimize key business processes, deliver a differentiated customer experience, or uncover new business opportunities. They do not understand what’s possible with respect to integrating Big Data into the business model.

As people view cloud as a preferred option to build IT systems, the size of the cloud-based system is getting bigger and more complex. As the system gets bigger, more people need to collaborate from design to management. As more people collaborate to create a bigger system, the need for a systematic approach to automate the process is required. Just as in software, cloud now needs DevOps. In this session, the audience can see how people can solve this issue with a visual model. Visual models ha...

We all know that end users experience the Internet primarily with mobile devices. From an app development perspective, we know that successfully responding to the needs of mobile customers depends on rapid DevOps – failing fast, in short, until the right solution evolves in your customers' relationship to your business.
