No University Left Behind

Crackle, buzz, and tweet: these are a few associations with the millennial generation in the classrooms. Just as vocal activism defined the students of previous generation, the millennials have wired the halls of higher education with all things digital. But as professors upload textbooks and students campaign via social media, many universities still operate through manual workflow and processes that feel as antiquated as the typewriter.

While instant gratification garners negative connotations for the millennial generation, it’s in fact the challenge universities face everyday. Imagine the stacks of forms that university administrators process; likewise, students scramble to complete vital documents –such as financial aid packages – that cannot afford human error or be processed at a snail’s pace. Adopting digital transaction management (DTM) isn’t an impatient move; it’s a logical and resourceful one that connects universities with success. In fact, a recent Campus Technology article cites that Android smart phone usage nears 1 billion in 2014. Furthermore, The University of Virginia recently announced the implementation of Infolinx WEB for “tracking of research, organizational and facilities management records.” [1] The argument clearly stands in favor of a fresh 21st century solution.

In the midst of the digital transition, I notice a few key trends that would safeguard a clean user experience for both student and university.

Mobility– “Housekeeping” shouldn’t be confined to a desktop. Mobile enables Students and administrators to stay on top of vital paperwork no matter their location.

Multi-Network Security- A variety of mobile networks matriculate alongside students. As they place trust in their university, they should place equal trust in a DTM process that is safe, secure and available over a wide range of networks.

In scrubbing away the red tape associated with copious paperwork, we empower our students and administrators to focus their full attention on what matters, from increased time for social good to granting first-time students easy access to resources. In fact, DTM creates a wholly new university experience elevating all parties on their path to success.
