Facebook reported sharp increases in the number of mobile users accessing the social networking site in the third quarter as well as a bump in mobile advertising revenue. However, the company's shares fell after it said it did not plan to boost the frequency of ads shown to users.  Read Original Content

Flipboard, the social magazine app for iOS and Android, is extending its feelers further into mobile commerce with a new catalogs category. The update allows companies and individual users to create specialized buying guides out of items found within Flipboard and on the Web. Retailers are increasingly turning to mobile coupons to drive traffic in stores and online. One such company is Advance Auto Parts, which has traditionally focused its advertising dollars in print and TV. To study the effectiveness of ads online, the company recently ran a promotion simultaneously in print and online through RetailMeNot.  They found the redemption rate for the mobile ads was 30 percent, compared to less than one percent for the print ads. According to Frost and Sullivan, mobile advertising in Australia is growing at nearly 40 percent a year. The market is predicted to grow at a compound annual growth rate 39 percent from 2013 to 2018, with expenditure reaching $682 million in 2018.  By that time, 70 percent of overall mobile advertising spend will be done on tablets and 30 percent on smartphones.  Read Original Content

Moneris Solutions, a Canadian payment processor, has launched a new mobile payments service called “Payd Pro.” The new service is designed to be used alongside debit cards, allowing the financial information associated with these cards to be used by a mobile device.
