VMware(R) Horizon View(TM) Transforms Legacy Desktops Into a Service at Sutherland Global Services

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Creates Private Cloud for Managing Global Desktops for a Company in Hyper-Growth Mode

PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/20/13 -- VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced that Sutherland Global Services, a US-based global provider of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Technology Enabled services has deployed 10,000 seats of VMware Horizon® View™ Business Process Desktop to create a private cloud to service their global workforce. With more than 30,000 employees across 30 cities and 10 countries, virtualizing desktops has enabled Sutherland Global Services to transform their legacy desktops into a service to attain high availability, data security and a flexible desktop infrastructure for growth and change.

"With a global workforce in hyper-growth mode, operating in a seamless and continuously productive manner is absolutely crucial to our business," said Deepak Batheja, CTO, Sutherland Global Services. "We have accomplished this by fully embracing a desktop as a service approach leveraging VMware's desktop virtualization software as a core enabler. Sutherland's next-gen desktop as a service solution creatively addresses multi-fold requirements ranging from geographic expansion, business continuity, meeting unpredictable demands and enabling a unique integrated BPO proposition while continually reducing costs and increasing efficiency."

At Sutherland, success as a BPO basically comes down to flawless and efficient execution by leveraging three capabilities: people, technology, and processes. The company deployed virtualization and private cloud technologies as an enabler for all three of these core capabilities allowing the IT organization to manage a highly scalable and geographically dispersed infrastructure with a single optimized and centralized team. The vision was to reduce time-to-revenue for Sutherland and their clients by quickly deploying Sutherland consultants -- with all of the tools necessary to perform their jobs -- anywhere in the world and assure revenue by enabling highly reliable and continuously available business platforms.

Sutherland's virtualized infrastructure is orchestrated for scalability, seasonality, workload mobility, recovery security, compliance, and geographic expansions. All of this while keeping the IT infrastructure and team streamlined and nimble. The benefits can be summarized by revenue growth, cost optimization, and platform availability and resiliency.

"Sutherland Global Services, one of the world's largest companies specializing in BPO and optimization solutions, has creatively engineered one of the largest VMware-enabled private clouds to service its global employees," said Erik Frieberg, senior director, product marketing, End-User Computing, VMware. "Sutherland is a prime example of using thought leadership and technology innovation to introduce a more efficient way to work to make things easier for IT and end-users by removing the limitations of a physical PC."

Moving Desktops to the Cloud
As part of the VMware Horizon™ Suite, VMware® Horizon View™ transforms traditional physical PCs into centralized managed IT services and delivers elastic desktop services as a virtual workspace for ultimate control and flexibility for user experience, administration and service. IT gains greater control in conjunction with the flexibility to embrace new technologies and simplify management of the end-user environment, while still being able to access desktop services from every device while in the office, remote and on the road.

Built on VMware vSphere®, the industry's most widely deployed virtualization platform, VMware Horizon View enables the industry's best end-user experience while simplifying IT management for large-scale deployments and reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) associated with VDI.
