Smartling Adds Document Translation to Cloud-Based Platform: Offers One-Stop Hub for Translating and Localizing All Digital Content

MIAMI, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 03/18/13 -- Smartling, the cloud-based enterprise translation management company, today announced translation support for a full range of business documents, creating the first full-service, integrated platform for translating and localizing online and offline content. The documents feature debuts today at GALA 2013 Miami Beach, a conference organized by the world's largest association for the language industry, Globalization and Localization Association (GALA).

The new document translation capability is fully integrated into the Smartling Translation Management System (TMS), an automated, collaborative workflow that manages all types of digital content, from websites and mobile apps to documents and brochures. Customers can drag and drop business documents into the Smartling TMS, which will automatically parse the document content, leverage existing translation memory assets, and enable collaborative, in-context translation.

"Translating the myriad of digital content formats for the web, mobile applications and business documents can get unwieldy," said Jack Welde, CEO, Smartling. "While other software tools handle pieces of the puzzle, we've put it all together into one streamlined platform, where everyone involved in the process can collaborate for faster and higher-quality results."

Key features and benefits:

  • Fully integrated to manage common business document formats. Focused on key aspects of the corporate digital ecosystem, Smartling supports the popular Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as Adobe InDesign, with more to come.
  • In-context editing. Documents are translated with the layout and content structure that will appear in production, maximizing accuracy and speed. The content is also parsed automatically and matched against existing translation memory and glossary assets, boosting translation efficiency and consistency.
  • Drag-and-drop ease. To request a business document translation, customers simply drag the file into the Smartling TMS. When the translation is complete, the user receives the fully-translated documents, and all translated content is automatically added to the customer's translation memory for future re-use.
  • Consolidated translation memory. Document translation makes full use of the customer's secure, private translation memory -- the collection of previously-translated sentences and phrases -- to maximize translation consistency while minimizing translation cost and turnaround times.

"By adding document translation to their platform, Smartling allows their users to process all digital content, from localization of software files to marketing literature, in the same interface rather than investing in multiple tools," according to market research firm Common Sense Advisory Inc. "Smartling's emphasis on connectivity to other management systems positions it well for the role as the hub in the enterprise content universe."

The Smartling Translation Management System (TMS) is the first platform built to manage the entire translation, localization and delivery process in the cloud. The platform matches the agile pace of business today, rendering the traditional costly, slow and tedious translation model obsolete. Putting the process in the cloud, Smartling automates workflows, improves the quality of translations by providing context and visibility, and speeds deployment exponentially -- while meeting the quality requirements of the largest global companies and the hottest consumer web and mobile companies.

At pennies per virtual machine-hour, the economics of cloud computing are both compelling and daunting to replicate. Whether you are building your own cloud infrastructure, building a public cloud or choosing a cloud service, there are key strategy and technology decisions that make the difference between success and failure. You're getting pitched every day from your legacy enterprise software and hardware vendors about "cloud." They're doing an amazing job of convincing your CIO and CTO about what cloud is and how you should use it. The reality is they're defending their shrinking market share and keeping you on the legacy treadmill for as long as they can by selling you solutions that aren't "cloud." In her session at the 12th International Cloud Expo, Niki Acosta, Cloud Evangelista for Rackspace, will talk thro...
The rise of cloud computing has exposed hard drive-based storage as the new data center bottleneck. Combating this, data center managers have deployed SSDs to gain the performance needed to provide real-time access to data. However, due to budget constraints, many have turned to consumer-grade SSDs without understanding that they wear out quickly when processing enterprise workloads. In this session, Esther Spanjer will discuss recent endurance advancements in SSD technology that enable usage of...
