Red Gold Will Use Widen Digital Asset Management for Its Tomato Products, Including Private Labels

Widen Media Collective DAM Software Will Enable Red Gold to Move Into the Cloud, Leaving DVDs and Floppies in the Past, Where They Belong

MADISON, WI -- (Marketwire) -- 03/11/13 -- Red Gold, a producer of premium tomato products, has been generating huge amounts of digital media for years now. Sifting through those images, videos, presentations and other files, however, has been difficult. All that's about to change, as Red Gold will bring Widen Enterprises' digital asset management software in-house. "We had no way to efficiently search for an asset. You just had to remember where you had stored it -- somewhere on the shared drive or it could have been in someone's personal files. It was also impossible to tell whether a person had already created an asset," said Red Gold New Media Manager Colt Reichart.

That sort of confusion is precisely what Widen Media Collective is designed to minimize. Centralizing an asset library helps an organization avoid redundancies in asset creation, maintain version control, and generally streamline the processes involved in storing, managing and distributing digital assets.

"It's always great to be able to help organizations that produce the stuff we wear, use or eat on a daily basis," said Widen Marketing Manager Jake Athey. "From here on out, knowing that our software is playing a part in making Red Gold's processes more effective will make ketchup taste that much better."

With about 4,000 labels (including a number of private label brands produced by Red Gold), the maker of ketchups, sauces, and canned tomatoes of the peeled, sliced, diced, and other varieties has a massive library to rein in. The transition to cloud-based media management software and centralization represents a huge step up for Red Gold.

"We have a collection that included over 450 DVDs, 300 floppies, 30,000 historic photographs, 200,000 PowerPoints, Adobe, image and video files," said Reichart. "Right now, we're beta testing with our use of Media Collective, but eventually about 200 people will have access to the DAM system."

There's more good news for the people at Red Gold (and all other Widen DAM software customers, for that matter). That Media Collective is in the cloud and accessed through Web browsers means that customers get updates to their system as soon as they're available -- like the update to Media Collective 6.3, which is being rolled out this month. No installations, no downloads, no upgrades necessary. In other words: Red Gold has probably made the last radical change in digital asset management that it will need for a long time.

The rise of cloud computing has exposed hard drive-based storage as the new data center bottleneck. In this session, Esther Spanjer will discuss recent endurance advancements in SSD technology that enable usage of...
