Humetrix Releases iBlueButton Mobile Apps for Intel Atom-Based Android Phones

Humetrix to Demonstrate the Mobile-to-Mobile Point of Care Health Information Exchange Apps at Intel's Booth #940 at HIMSS13 in New Orleans, March 3-7

DEL MAR, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/01/13 -- Humetrix announced today it is working with Intel to demonstrate the new release of its award-winning iBlueButton® mobile apps for Intel® Atom™-based Android™ phones at the HIMSS13 conference and exhibition in New Orleans, March 3-7. Additionally, the novel iBlueButton platform of mobile-to-mobile patient-controlled health information exchange apps will be highlighted with Intel at live and virtual healthcare-related events and conferences across the world throughout 2013.

This latest release of iBlueButton means that consumers who use a growing number of Intel-based Android smartphones -- and soon Intel-powered Android tablets -- will be able to securely exchange their medical records with physicians at the point of care, device-to-device, as a way to improve the safety and efficacy of care. Studies show that the lack of up-to-date patient records is one of the key factors in high rates of medical errors and billions of dollars in waste from redundant tests, unnecessary procedures, and diagnostic and treatment errors each year.

"Next-generation healthcare delivery requires innovations like the iBlueButton platform, which we are pleased to show on Intel-based Android phones and, later in the year, Intel-based Android tablets," said Mark Blatt, MD, Worldwide Medical Director, Sales and Marketing Group, Intel. "It is designed to allow patients to directly and efficiently access and share their personal health records with their providers using a secure and standardized method."

iBlueButton is available for iPhone®, iPad® and Android devices.

"This latest release of iBlueButton will make it easier for many more Americans and other users of Intel-powered Android phones around the world to have their health records available anywhere and anytime they're needed," said Bettina Experton, MD, MPH, President and CEO of Humetrix and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego.

"iBlueButton's cross-platform iOS/Android capability lets physicians and patients share medical records and other critical information to improve patient safety and reduce wasteful procedures regardless of whether they use an Android or Apple device," Dr. Experton continued. "Moreover, our ability to access, and make shareable, medical records from virtually any cloud-based data source including electronic medical record systems that enable patient-authorized access, ensures that patients across the globe can take their health into their own hands with iBlueButton."

The iBlueButton app won the federal government's Blue Button® Mash-Up Industry Innovation Challenge, to access and share with providers their online health records through the Federal Blue Button initiative. These include Medicare beneficiaries, veterans, active-duty military and their families, Aetna plan enrollees, and patients using RelayHealth.

The "dual app system" consists of both a consumer app for iOS or Android smartphones and tablet computers, and the iBlueButton Professional app for physicians, which runs on a tablet. This platform enables the direct and secure transmission of Blue Button and other health records from the patient's device to their physician's device. In addition, the apps automatically mash up health records with contextual information to better inform patients and engage them in their care. Patients using the consumer app have the ability to share their selected records with any provider they see and transmit these records to providers who are using the iBlueButton Professional app, optimizing care coordination and giving them more control over their own healthcare.

For more discussion of the need for mobile solutions that optimize care coordination and patient engagement, read "Consumer-Mediated Mobile Solutions to Accelerate Health Information Exchange," a post by Dr. Experton on the Intel Healthcare Community blog.

HIMSS Demo

The first live demonstration of iBlueButton on an Intel-powered Android phone will take place in the Intel booth (#940) at HIMSS13, the world's largest healthcare information technology conference.

The iBlueButton consumer and physician apps are available on iTunes for iPhone and iPad. The new iBlueButton Android App for consumers is available on the Google Play™ store. In the near future, iBlueButton Professional will be available on Atom-based Android tablets in addition to iPad.

Currently, several manufacturers including Motorola and Lenovo market Android smartphones based on the Intel Atom processor platform, which was specifically designed for smartphones and tablets, and delivers leading performance with competitive, energy efficiency.

One of the cloud’s biggest draws is the capability to virtualize computing resources, allowing it to be consumed with the click of a mouse. But behind that simple click is an enormous infrastructure challenge that has recently been cited as a major cause for slower enterprise adoption. Enterprises can better prepare for this shift and take full advantage of future computing benefits. Between architecture design and migration planning, the road can be long, so what do you do with your talent? I...
