Dentalcompare Focuses on Dentist Needs -- Overhauls Product Directory & Expands Editorial to Create Most Comprehensive and Trusted Industry Resource

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/20/13 -- Dentalcompare, the leading online product information resource for the dental industry and business unit of CompareNetworks, Inc., today announced they have reached a major milestone in their product directory overhaul and have expanded their editorial content.

"After surveying over 2,000 US Dentists, we now know what information Dentists look for when making purchasing decisions," said Eric McGovern, Product Manager for Dentalcompare. "By focusing our initiatives on meeting these needs we have created a more trusted, comprehensive and unbiased resource for dental professionals worldwide."

With over 8,000 dental products in the product directory, Dentalcompare focused on the major categories first. Large equipment, small equipment, materials and software categories have been overhauled and are now:

  • Comprehensive & Unbiased - All equipment, products and materials are listed regardless of the manufacturer advertising with Dentalcompare.
  • Include Complete Specifications - Dentalcompare's clinical experts have determined which specifications are important for each product, and all product specs are normalized so they may be compared.
  • Include Pricing Information - Dentalcompare added an average price for each product taken from at least three sources.

Last August, Dentalcompare also hired Noah Levine, a long-time editor for the dental industry. Levine has expanded Dentalcompare's editorial content to provide deeper and unique product education including Buyer's Guides, case studies and product reviews.

"We are very excited about these changes on Dentalcompare and have already seen a 49% increase in unique visitors to the site," said Dennis O'Neill, Publisher for Dentalcompare. "By focusing on the needs of dentists we're able to provide an exceptional user experience and ultimately deliver more value to our advertising partners."

CloudEXPO Stories
When building large, cloud-based applications that operate at a high scale, it's important to maintain a high availability and resilience to failures. In order to do that, you must be tolerant of failures, even in light of failures in other areas of your application. "Fly two mistakes high" is an old adage in the radio control airplane hobby. It means, fly high enough so that if you make a mistake, you can continue flying with room to still make mistakes. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Lee Atchison, Principal Cloud Architect and Advocate at New Relic, discussed how this same philosophy can be applied to highly scaled applications, and can dramatically increase your resilience to failure.
Machine learning has taken residence at our cities' cores and now we can finally have "smart cities." Cities are a collection of buildings made to provide the structure and safety necessary for people to function, create and survive. Buildings are a pool of ever-changing performance data from large automated systems such as heating and cooling to the people that live and work within them. Through machine learning, buildings can optimize performance, reduce costs, and improve occupant comfort by sharing information within the building and with outside city infrastructure via real time shared cloud capabilities.
