Kannuu Launches Advanced Search and Discovery Services on WD® TV Live™ and WD® TV Live Hub™ Media Players

Kannuu Pty Ltd, a provider of search and discovery solutions for the Smart TV environment, today announced that the Kannuu search and discovery service is now available on the popular WD TV® Live™ and WD TV® Live Hub™ media players from WD®, a Western Digital company.

WD entered the media player market in 2010 and has a growing number of entertainment channels, including VUDU, Red Bull TV™, ABC iview (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), Acetrax™, maxdome, the BILD TV-App, and the AOL On Network, among others. Kannuu provides search and discovery services across a number of US-based entertainment apps including Netflix and VUDU.

Kannuu search seamlessly integrates with the WD TV Live and WD TV Live Hub media players, and enables consumers to quickly and easily find the movie and TV show content they want using their WD remote control and remote control directional arrows displayed on their TV screen. Searching by title, actor, director, keyword or genre, WD media player customers leverage Kannuu's intuitive interface and proprietary search algorithms to find the video content they're looking for with only a few button presses.

Said TDG analyst Colin Dixon, “Media players are a simple solution for consumers to use to get the OTT content they want on to their television. But the dramatic increase in the quantity of content available OTT is making it increasingly difficult to navigate through existing CE interfaces. Approaches such as Kannuu can help by making the search and discovery process fast, easy and fun.”

Kannuu CEO Todd Viegut said, "We’ve all experienced the frustration of on-screen keyboard navigation. It is horrible. Media players bring a wealth of great content to the television, and we maintain that Kannuu is by far the best way for consumers to find what they’re looking for across their media player’s growing offering of channels and content. Using just your thumb on your remote and looking only at the directional arrows and movie suggestions on your TV screen, Kannuu makes it fast and easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. There is no learning curve. It is intuitive and fun. We are excited to deliver a search and discovery solution for the WD TV Live and WD TV Live Hub media players. We’re confident WD customers will find the Kannuu Search experience satisfying and refreshing.”

One of the cloud’s biggest draws is the capability to virtualize computing resources, allowing it to be consumed with the click of a mouse. But behind that simple click is an enormous infrastructure challenge that has recently been cited as a major cause for slower enterprise adoption.
