Network Instruments Reports Revenues Rise 11 Percent

New Unified Communications and Intelligent Application Monitoring Products Fuel Momentum

MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- (Marketwire) -- 01/25/13 -- Network Instruments, a worldwide leader in network and application performance monitoring, today announced the company's total revenue grew to record-levels, increasing by 11 percent over 2011. The company achieved double-digit growth chiefly by addressing the needs of Global 2000 organizations for performance monitoring solutions -- providing comprehensive unified communications (UC) coverage with in-depth and contextual monitoring of complex multi-tiered applications.

"Our performance monitoring innovations and ability to deliver solutions that lower overall total cost of ownership have fueled our consistently strong growth rate," said Douglas Smith CEO, president, and co-founder of Network Instruments. "We offer deeper analysis and a more streamlined troubleshooting process that yield immediate and actionable resolutions. With our ability to provide unified performance views from the application to infrastructure, we're adding more than one new customer every day."

Growth-Driving Trends
Significant growth has been achieved by addressing the needs of network teams to monitor complex applications with in-depth visibility and analysis for fast issue resolution.

"Organizations that do not have full application performance monitoring capabilities reported their IT staffs spent an average of 46.2 hours each month in war-room meetings," said Bojan Simic, president and principal analyst for TRAC Research. "Utilizing application-aware network performance monitoring solutions like the Observer platform offer a cost-effective way to immediately slash troubleshooting times, optimize service availability, and ensure a positive user experience."

A great example of in-depth transaction analysis contributing to revenues can be seen in the number of IT teams utilizing the Observer platform for assessing the performance of VoIP and videoconferencing platforms.

"UC monitoring and management solutions like the Network Instruments Observer platform are in demand because they leverage deep-packet inspection combined with detailed analysis and correlated infrastructure viewpoints," said Jim Frey, managing research director of Enterprise Management Associates (EMA). "Such comprehensive views of the complete communication and services platform in full context of the shared delivery infrastructure are of great value for assuring success across the entire lifecycle of UC, from planning to piloting to operations monitoring and troubleshooting."

Performance Innovations
Network Instruments has been a long-time leader in delivering performance monitoring solutions that unify Layer 4-7 application management with underlying network and infrastructure health. This was demonstrated through multiple industry-leading achievements in 2012:

  • First 40 Gb Data Center Monitoring Platform: Network Instruments' hardware and software interface was the first to capture and analyze full-duplex 40 Gb. Coupled with the GigaStor retrospective network analysis appliance, IT teams are able to store up to 5 PB of traffic to manage performance on critical 40 Gb links.
  • Mobile Carrier Market Expansion: The Observer platform expanded its Internet Protocol (IP) Expert Analysis into the mobile market, offering end-to-end visibility for tracking the flow of control and data services across high-speed LTE networks.
  • Comprehensive UC Innovations: Through the integration of communication protocols such as IPTV and infrastructure tracking including Cisco® endpoints, Microsoft® Lync, and Cisco Medianet, the company continues to lead the way in providing unified monitoring of UC.
  • Streamlining Application Problem Resolution: The newest Observer platform release streamlined performance assessments, triaging, and root-cause analysis via new application dependency maps, performance matrices, and performance correlations.

One of the cloud’s biggest draws is the capability to virtualize computing resources, allowing it to be consumed with the click of a mouse. But behind that simple click is an enormous infrastructure challenge that has recently been cited as a major cause for slower enterprise adoption. Enterprises can better prepare for this shift and take full advantage of future computing benefits. Between architecture design and migration planning, the road can be long, so what do you do with your talent? I...
