iPass Open Mobile Client for iOS Takes Major Leap Forward

New Version of App Delivers Seamless Wi-Fi Connectivity and Superior Wi-Fi Connection Experience for Open Mobile iOS Device Users

REDWOOD SHORES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/17/13 -- iPass® Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), the global Wi-Fi roaming leader for enterprises and telecom service providers, announced today a revolutionary release to its iPass Open Mobile™ Wi-Fi client for iOS devices. The new version of the app (version 3.0) delivers a superior Wi-Fi connectivity experience for Open Mobile iOS users that streamlines the process for business travelers to easily connect to the world's largest commercial Wi-Fi hotspot network with over one million venues worldwide.

Major enhancements in version 3.0 of the iPass Open Mobile client for iOS include:

  • Automatic background authentication: The iPass Network authentication is now performed automatically in the background after a Wi-Fi connection has been established by the iOS Wi-Fi connection manager. This new feature eliminates the need for users to manually interact with the native iOS Wi-Fi connection manager (via the iOS "Settings") in order to select, and then interact with the Open Mobile client to complete the authentication. Uniquely, this process is now done automatically in the background, allowing Open Mobile iOS users to more effortlessly and quickly connect to an iPass hotspot, using only the native iOS Wi-Fi connection manager.

  • Enhanced network labeling: Qualified iPass networks are annotated in a small footnote below the SSID to inform users which SSIDs are part of the iPass network. This new enhanced network labeling allows users to make an informed decision on which SSID to connect to. This takes the guesswork out of knowing the difference between an iPass SSID and an open broadcast SSID, giving Open Mobile iOS users peace of mind with the ability to easily chose their known and trusted iPass network.

  • Pop-up notification of iPass network availability: By integrating the iPass Open Mobile client with the iOS Notification Center (a banner at the top of the iOS screen), the Open Mobile iOS client automatically sends pop-up "iPass network available" notifications, alerting Open Mobile users to iPass networks available in that location. This proactive notification empowers users with the knowledge that they are in an iPass hotspot so they can take advantage of the cost-effective, fast iPass Wi-Fi connection vs. a slow and expensive 3G data connection, or an unknown and possibly unsafe public Wi-Fi network.

"The iPass Open Mobile client v3.0 for iOS represents a tremendous leap forward for Open Mobile users. It ensures a superior user connectivity experience that's more simplified and automated than previous versions of the Open Mobile iOS app," said Barbara Nelson, CTO, iPass. "The iPass networks now become easier to identify for Open Mobile iOS users who are looking for a trusted and known Wi-Fi connection wherever they travel. Our existing customers will enjoy a radically simplified Wi-Fi connectivity experience when using the iPass network; and new customers can take advantage of the seamless, high-performance Wi-Fi network that iPass has grown to more than 1 million hotspots in just the last few years."

The iPass Open Mobile client v3.0 for iOS is immediately available for free download from Apple's iTunes Store at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ipass-open-mobile-for-ios/id438965435?mt=8.

By ensuring the organiza...
A recent study by analyst firm IDC reports that in 2012, 1.7 million cloud computing-related roles across the globe could not be filled due to the lack of training, certification and experience in the applicant pool. As the global demand for cloud and big data expertise increases, employers are finding it difficult to recruit talent, which is slowing down the ability for organizations to adopt, implement, and realize benefits from innovative platforms like OpenStack. In this session join Clo...
Enterprises can't close their doors just because integration tools won't cope with the volume of information that their systems produce. As each day goes by, their information will become larger and more complicated, and enterprises must constantly struggle to manage the integration of dozens (or hundreds) of systems. Apache Hadoop has quickly become the technology of choice for enterprises that need to perform complex analysis of petabytes of data, but few are aware of its potential to hand...
Our more interconnected planet is accelerating the adoption and convergence of next-generation architectures, in the form of cloud, mobile and instrumented physical assets. Organizations that can effectively balance optimization and innovation, will be in a position to leverage new systems of engagement, out maneuver their peers and achieve desired outcomes. In the Opening Keynote at 12th Cloud Expo | Cloud Expo New York, IBM GM & Next Generation Platform CTO Dr Danny Sabbah will detail the crit...

Companies around the world are collecting massive amounts of data everyday that’s sitting around and not being utilized. Take for example the fact that companies collect demographic and location-based data via mobile devices all the time, but have to figure out how to monetize that data. In this session, Joyent CTO and founder Jason Hoffman will examine the state of Big Data, taking a look at what we're doing now to discussing what's on the horizon, as companies prepare and realign their busines...
The massive computing and storage resources that are needed to support big data applications make cloud environments an ideal fit. In Nati Shalom's upcoming session at 12th Cloud Expo | Cloud Expo New York [June 10-13, 2013], you'll learn how to build your big data "database on-demand" using MongoDB, Cassandra, Solr, MySQL, or any other big data solution, as well as manage your big data application using a new open source framework called “Cloudify.” All this, on top of the OpenStack cloud.
Planning scalable environments isn't terribly difficult, but it does require a change of perspective. During this session we'll broaden our views to think on an Internet Scale by dissecting a video publishing application built with The SoftLayer Platform, Message Queuing, Object Storage, and Drupal. By examining a scalable modular application build that can handle unpredictable traffic, you'll be able to grow your development arsenal and pick up a few strategies to apply to your own projects.
If zettabytes of data exist, why is less than 1% of the world’s data being analyzed today? Seasoned entrepreneur and startup CEO Radhika Subramanian believes that the inability to analyze and gain value from Big Data is that organizations are taking a services-centered approach. As the title of the session implies, Subramanian believes that the data needs to do the talking, not armies of analysts searching and querying databases. Her company has developed high-speed, advanced algorithms to autom...
