Telstra Taps Kannuu Search for BigPond Movies

Kannuu Pty Ltd, a provider of search and discovery solutions for the Smart TV environment, today announced at the 2013 International CES that Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and information services company, has selected Kannuu as the search and discovery service for its video on demand offering -- BigPond Movies -- on the Samsung Smart TV, the Samsung DVD player, the Samsung Smart Blu-ray™ and the Samsung Smart Home Theater.

Kannuu search seamlessly integrates with the BigPond Movies service on Samsung devices and enables consumers to quickly and easily find the movie or TV show they want using their standard remote control and the remote control directional arrows displayed on their Smart TV screen. Searching by title, actor, director, keyword or genre, consumers leverage Kannuu's intuitive interface and proprietary search algorithms to find the movie they're looking for with only a few button presses.

Said TDG analyst Collin Dixon, “Eliminating the frustration inherent in searching for shows using the normal methods – such as the on-screen keyboard – should be high on the agenda for any operator. Innovative approaches like Kannuu hold the possibility of not only solving the problem but also making the search process fun. What better way to differentiate a TV service?"

Kannuu CEO Todd Viegut said, "Kannuu provides an effective, effortless means to find the movie you want using the directional arrows on your standard TV remote control. No tortuous on-screen keyboard navigation, no switching your line of vision back and forth between the remote and the TV. Using just your thumb and looking only at the directional arrows and movie suggestions on your TV screen, Kannuu makes it a breeze to find a movie. Consumers try it once, and they're hooked. We are thrilled to be the search and discovery solution for BigPond Movies."

Viegut added, "Service providers face unrelenting pressure to reduce churn and increase ARPU. The proliferation of Smart TVs and the explosion of video content affords providers an unprecedented opportunity to gain ground on both fronts. Providing a superior video on demand and video streaming service is paramount, and these services all begin with search, which is where Kannuu excels. We help service providers open up the untapped value of Smart TV video content consumption by resolving the greatest obstacle -- the complete and utter lack of an appropriate or acceptable content search and discovery mechanism for the TV screen. We maintain that Kannuu is by far the best way to find content in a Smart TV world."

If a machine can invent, does this mean the end of the patent system as we know it? The patent system, both in the US and Europe, allows companies to protect their inventions and helps foster innovation. However, Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be set to disrupt the patent system as we know it. This talk will examine how AI may change the patent landscape in the years to come. Furthermore, ways in which companies can best protect their AI related inventions will be examined from both a US and European perspective.
The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next-gen applications and how to address the challenges of building applications that harness all data types and sources.

All zSystem customers have a significant new business opportunity to extend their reach to new customers and markets with new applications and services, and to improve the experience of existing customers. This can be achieved by exposing existing z assets (which have been developed over time) as APIs for accessing Systems of Record, while leveraging mobile and cloud capabilities with new Systems of Engagement applications. In this session, we will explore business drivers with new Node.js apps for delivering enhanced customer experience (with mobile and cloud adoption), how to accelerate development and management of SoE app APIs with API management.
