The next generation of infotainment systems that improve the driving experience are unveiled by Johnson Controls at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show

Company also announces it will launch production of its first infotainment system in a global 2014 model year vehicle

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson Controls, building on more than a decade of experience in connectivity, hands-free telematics, and Human Machine Interface (HMI), is expanding its electronics product portfolio into full in-vehicle infotainment systems for automakers. The company, a leader in automotive interiors and electronics, announced this today at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

"As the market has migrated toward more integrated infotainment solutions, we havedeveloped in-house capabilities and formed strategic partnerships in the development of our products," said Paul Lambert, group vice president and general manager, Electronics, Johnson Controls Automotive Electronics and Interiors. "As a result, we offer automakers integrated system solutions that include navigation, audio management, connectivity and HMI design."

Johnson Controls also announced its first, full infotainment system will launch in a 2014 model year vehicle program in North America, Europe and Asia.

According to Lee Bauer, vice president of Infotainment, Johnson Controls Automotive Electronics and Interiors, the company's vision for infotainment will address both automakers and consumers desire for a "composited" view of diverse information sources within the vehicle.

"Infotainment and Information applications currently running on multiple operating systems, will be fused together in a comprehensive driver information package that is intuitive, safe and scalable for vehicles," said Bauer. "Multiple operating systems that can run in their own hardware space without modification will be the cornerstone of bringing automotive embedded infotainment and driver information into a cloud based future."

Available in model year 2015, Johnson Controls' "fusion" approach to driver interaction electronics will allow automakers to achieve the next level of hardware integration while addressing driver safety and information needs. System capability will be further enhanced when these software applications, running on Linux / GENIVI, Android and real-time QNX platforms, do so in a secure mode with hard firewalls. The company's multiple operation system approach and graphics handling capability will deliver the required system performance for automakers. This fusion approach, coupled with a new, highly adaptive interaction model that covers both cloud and vehicle based information and content sources, will deliver a new level in user experience.

The 2013 CES is the world's largest annual innovation event, which takes place January 8-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
