Lean Software Expert to Keynote SATURN 2013

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Mary Poppendieck, award-winning author and expert on Lean software development, will deliver a keynote address  at the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute's annual software architecture conference. The SEI Architecture Technology User Network (SATURN) 2013 Conference, which will be held April 29 through May 3, 2013, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will feature three keynote addresses by leaders in the field of software architecture.

Poppendieck started her career as a process control programmer, moved on to manage the IT department of a manufacturing plant, and then ended up in product development, where she was both a product champion and department manager. After managing a government software project in 1998, she wrote the award-winning book Lean Software Development: An Agile Toolkit, and has co-authored two other books:  Implementing Lean Software Development: From Concept to Cash and Leading Lean Software Development: Results are Not the Point with her husband, Tom. A popular writer and speaker, Poppendieck brings fresh perspectives to the world of software development.

"Mary Poppendieck's holistic view on design blends in with this year's SATURN topics of front-end and back-end architectures," said Heiko Koziolek, technical co-chair for SATURN 2013. "Front-end architectures not only must work with recent technologies while following proven patterns but also have to implement an interaction design that facilitates the user experience. This design permeates back-end architectures, which provide comprehensive applications and sophisticated information management to support the interaction design."

In addition to the keynote presentations, the SATURN 2013 Conference includes an extensive program of technical sessions, practical tutorials, and two SEI courses. The conference provides attendees with the opportunity to network with international industry leaders in the field of software architecture.

The call for submissions for SATURN 2013 is now open through January 7, 2013. Learn more about submission guidelines at: http://www.sei.cmu.edu/saturn/2013/call-for-submissions/

“Big Data analytics will shape the form of nearly every process going forward in time, from the color of the latest fashions, what the candidates say in one town versus another to the chemical composition of the latest super drug,” noted Steve Knodl, Director of Product Management at NextIO, in this exclusive Q&A with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. “Whether these are considered “new” products,” Knodl continued, “or continuous improvement on previous processes is largely in the eyes o...
Organizations want extraordinary results from their IT units. Today's mantra is faster delivery, better quality, cheaper solutions, and safer environments. Many CIOs are implementing cloud computing enterprise architectures to address these challenges with results varying greatly. Why are some organizations seeing only limited results from cloud computing implementations while others are increasing market share, decreasing costs, generating value, and innovating faster?
The rise of cloud computing has exposed hard drive-based storage as the new data center bottleneck. Combating this, data center managers have deployed SSDs to gain the performance needed to provide real-time access to data. However, due to budget constraints, many have turned to consumer-grade SSDs without understanding that they wear out quickly when processing enterprise workloads. In this session, Esther Spanjer will discuss recent endurance advancements in SSD technology that enable usage of...
