NetCom Licenses Synchronica's SyncML Gateway to Provide Robust 'Back-up and Restore' Facility for Mobile Devices

RESTON, Va., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Synchronica plc, an international provider of mobile synchronization and device management solutions, has licensed its SyncML Gateway mobile synchronization software to Norwegian mobile operator NetCom ASA. The agreement allows NetCom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the TeliaSonera group with over 1.4 million GSM subscribers, to offer customers a robust back-up and restore facility for personal data stored on mobile devices.

Synchronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte is confident that SyncML Gateway will continue to make headway in the mobile operator space. Brinkschulte says: "Mobile operators are increasingly looking for new revenue streams and an OTA back-up and restore service for data residing on individual phones is something that customers are beginning to request in greater numbers. The research group Zelos found that 15% of mobile subscribers expressed a strong need for a mechanism to back up contact data and this percentage will probably grow as people depend more and more on their mobile devices as the primary repository for vital information. As well as employing SyncML Gateway to increase data traffic, operators can also use the product to help maintain brand loyalty among customers."
