Emerging Threats Joins OATH (Initiative For Open AuTHentication)

Company Will Exhibit at RSA San Francisco in the OATH Pavilion Booth#839

LAFAYETTE, Ind., Dec. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Emerging Threats, a world-leading provider of open source and commercial threat and malware intelligence, today announced it has joined OATH (Initiative for Open AuTHentication).  The organization is comprised of industry leaders that work with other standards groups toward the propagation of ubiquitous strong authentication. In addition, Emerging Threats will be exhibiting at RSA San Francisco in the OATH Pavilion Booth#839.

OATH enables users and customers to use open standards for secure, two-factor authentication that includes hardware tokens, smart cards, PKI, and other technologies to prevent unauthorized users from access to mission-critical networks and eCommerce transactions.  Using open standards, OATH will offer more hardware choices, lower cost of ownership, and allow customers to replace existing disparate and proprietary security systems whose complexity often leads to higher costs.

In 2003, Emerging Threats founder and current CTO Matt Jonkman started an open source community dedicated to collecting IDS signatures to combat malware attacks on platforms like SNORT® and Suricata. The Emerging Threats Open Source Community Project consists of more than 200,000 active users sharing free IDS rulesets on a daily basis. The ETOpen IDS rulesets on the Emerging Threats Open Source Community portal are available to any individual or group, public or private.

As the IDS ruleset expanded, there became a demand for an advanced, supported commercial product to service SMBs, enterprises, governments, and OEMs while also funding and supporting the Emerging Threats Open Source Community Project. Emerging Threats began building a team of experts to analyze and test the data in a secure facility and developed the ETPro™ Ruleset that rigorously tests against hundreds of thousands of new pieces of malware every day. ETOpen and ETPro Rulesets have enabled Emerging Threats to be recognized throughout the world as the leader in malware and threat detection.

"Emerging Threats has its roots as an open source product and community that we continue to support, and likewise with other open source organizations that help to protect against malicious activity that effects users and business-critical networks," said Byron Rashed, director of global marketing and product management of Emerging Threats. "We are pleased to join OATH and support their efforts to create a more secure and better user experience with open standards for the data and network security community and look forward to exhibiting in their pavilion at RSA 2013 in San Francisco."

"We're delighted to have Emerging Threats join OATH and participate in the OATH Pavilion at RSA Conference 2013," said Donald Malloy, Jr., Joint Committee Chairman of OATH. "Increasing numbers of security technology companies recognize the need to integrate their products with end user authentication for complete end-to-end security.  Customers of Emerging Threats will benefit from the ongoing development work OATH member firms create for industry-backed standards for open authentication.  We believe other companies will follow Emerging Threats lead and expand our membership."

The rise of cloud computing has exposed hard drive-based storage as the new data center bottleneck. Combating this, data center managers have deployed SSDs to gain the performance needed to provide real-time access to data. However, due to budget constraints, many have turned to consumer-grade SSDs without understanding that they wear out quickly when processing enterprise workloads. In this session, Esther Spanjer will discuss recent endurance advancements in SSD technology that enable usage of...
