Rayku.com, World's First Market-Driven Tutoring Platform, Goes Live

2010 Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year launches website following $400K Investment

TORONTO, Dec. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - Donny Ouyang, Founder and CEO of Rayku.com, officially launched today the world's first market-driven platform for accessible tutoring. Available globally 24/7, Rayku.com enables tutors to set their own fees, and students to select their tutors based on price and quality—saving users an average of 60 per cent per tutoring session compared with conventional alternatives. Rayku.com is focusing initially on math tutoring for high school students, with plans to scale to many subjects and audiences.  Users can get started for free at www.rayku.com.

"We are the e-Bay of tutoring, allowing tutors to set their own fees, and students to select a tutor based on price and quality," said Donny Ouyang, Founder and President of Rayku.com.  "Students can be instantly matched with the best tutor right at the moment when they need help and only for as long as it takes to solve their question. This saves students time and money, while getting them the help they need."

Rayku.com launched in beta in April 2012 and has already signed up 2000 students. Sarah Ming, mother of 12th grade student Nathan from Kingston, New York said, "My son got in touch with a Yale math major who helped him understand a math problem that neither of us could figure out. This is a crucial year for him, and Rayku.com is one way for me to support his efforts."

Chris Voutsinas, formerly an executive director at Goldman Sachs, now an investor and member of the Rayku.com Advisory Board said, ""Rayku.com is a flexible and interactive platform with the capacity and scale to cover a multitude of subjects and audiences and to quickly become a market leader.  Donny Ouyang possesses that unusual combination of technical vision, business acumen, and entrepreneurial spirit that will greatly benefit Rayku.com."

Donny Ouyang emphasized that, "I started Rayku.com because I had my own struggles with math and was frustrated by all of the solutions that I tried.  I set out to create what I myself was looking for.  Now, I want to make high-quality tutoring accessible globally. I view both students and tutors as our customers.  We strive to ensure they have the best possible user experience. Students can choose the tutor who best suits their needs and can pay only for the help they require, in one-minute increments. Tutors have the opportunity to hone their teaching skills and to supplement their incomes.  The entire transaction is immediate and transparent, like the Internet itself."
