Pluralsight Enhances User Support with New Closed Captions and Full-Course Transcripts in More than 50 Languages

Pluralsight, a global leader in hardcore developer training on-demand, today announced that subscribers everywhere now have the ability to enjoy select courses from its more than 200 title library with closed caption display and full course transcript in English using an HTML 5 player. As an added benefit, Pluralsight’s new transcript feature allows subscribers to translate courses into more 50 languages, expanding its reach to even more software developers around the world.

Just as English evolved into the international language of business, coding is transitioning into a language all businesses need to be fluent to remain competitive and ahead of the curve. By making its courses available with transcripts in more than 50 languages and with closed caption functions, Pluralsight reinforces its commitment to making coding and its courses globally accessible so that businesses can stay ahead of the curve in this technology-driven market. Online training provides employees and businesses alike with an opportunity to have access to industry experts at any time while being able to work at their own pace.

“The increasing international demand for Pluralsight courses and software development drives our ongoing efforts to develop new content, functions and user engagement that cater to our varied, global subscriber base,” said Aaron Skonnard, president and CEO of Pluralsight. “New functions like closed captions and transcripts are just examples of how we continue to challenge our authors and team to find ways to improve our customer’s user experience and make coding accessible to more people, no matter how they learn or what language they speak.”

To access the new functions, Pluralsight subscribers are directed to a new “transcript” tab on the tool bar and a “CC” icon next to some of its most popular course, signifying that a course is available with closed captions and full transcript. With convenience always in mind, Pluralsight subscribers select a language preference upon first use, which is then stored within a user profile with closed captions and transcripts appearing in the user’s preferred language for each subsequent use. For non-English transcripts, Pluralsight uses the Google Translate service and users are able to switch languages at any time.

“We have received positive feedback from our users and business partners, expressing the importance of subtitles in multiple languages,” said Skonnard. “We hope that this will help companies enhance their employee training programs and will encourage job seekers, entrepreneurs and employees around the world to diversify and strengthen their skill sets, which has become crucial as more people telecommute, work remotely or are required to perform new job functions outside of their current knowledge base.”

Over 20% of Pluralsight courses are now available with the new transcript and closed caption functions. The team plans to expand its transcript library and is committed to transcribing any new courses that come out based on subscriber priority and demand as well as updating select older courses with closed captions and transcripts.
