Actuate’s Jason Weathersby to Present “BIRT and Big Data” as a Featured Speaker During Eclipse Day at the Googleplex

Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: BIRT), The BIRT Company™ – delivering more insights to more people than all BI companies combined – today announced that Jason Weathersby, Director of Evangelism and Community Development at Actuate, will present at the Eclipse Big Data Day event at the Googleplex on December 12, 2012. “Eclipse Day at the Googleplex” is a one-day event for developers to learn about different Eclipse projects and related technologies.

Mr. Weathersby has been a member of the extended BIRT development team at Actuate for more than 8 years, is a frequent technical speaker at international industry events and webinars, and has many years’ experience in business intelligence tools, database technologies, data visualization and related technical consulting, training and publishing. He earned a B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at University of South Carolina, Columbia, and blogs at www.birtworld.blogspot.com and http://jasonweathersby.sys-con.com/latest/blogs.

Just as Big Data sources and distributed systems are more prevalent today; presenting results in meaningful ways is more cumbersome. BIRT – a set of developer tools co-developed and sponsored by Actuate as a top-level project within the Eclipse Foundation – can ease visualization of results in a user friendly way. BIRT provides native support to access Hadoop through Hive queries as well as connectors to other Big Data sources such as Cassandra and MongoDB.

Using BIRT, developers can display their internal or external clients’ data in a stylized tabular or graphical nature, and customize it using the BIRT Designer environment. These reports can include dynamic drill through and interactivity, and can be exported to various formats including PDF, HTML, XLS, and ODT.

Mr. Weathersby’s session will introduce developers to BIRT and will cover in detail how to retrieve and visualize data from Big Data sources such as Hive/Hadoop, Cassandra and Mongo DB.
