Three Gorges’ New Hydropower Stations Go Live with IFS Applications and IFS Enterprise Explorer

IFS™, the global enterprise applications company announces that China Yangtze Power Corporation (CYPC), the owner of Three Gorges hydropower plant, the largest of its kind in the world, has gone live with IFS Applications, including the new user interface IFS Enterprise Explorer, at two new mega-hydropower stations on the Jinsha River, China.

In August 2011, CYPC signed an agreement with IFS covering the implementation of IFS Applications at two mega-hydropower stations on the Jinsha River. The Jinsha River ePMS (electric power production and management information system ), based on IFS Applications, helps CYPC achieve its business goals by enhancing professional asset management, production management and professional collaboration at all levels in the Jinsha River Basin.

CYPC has been an IFS customer since 2002, when IFS Applications was selected as the plant management solution for the Three Gorges hydropower plant. The Jinsha River ePMS system is based on the current IFS platform used by the Three Gorges hydropower plant. The solutions supports Jinsha River’s multi-power plants operation and management requirements. In addition, CYPC plans to extend this new generation of ePMS system across the Three Gorges group, thereby streamlining the upgrade of the group’s existing electricity production management system.

“IFS Applications offers enhanced user experience and efficiency and helps us ensure multi-power plant support, security, and sustainability,” CYPC President Zhang Cheng said. “CYPC will accelerate the upgrade of additional ePMS systems based on the IFS platform to achieve a unified electricity production management information system. We believe the new ePMS solution will play a more significant role in helping us achieve electricity production with more economy, security, and efficiency.”

Running the latest version of IFS Applications, the system leverages a number of leading-edge solutions including mobile technology to achieve cross-regional management. IFS Applications offers a centralised system and ensures company-wide information classification and coding standards, as well as standard power production and operation management processes meet the multi-dimensional cost accounting requirements across all power stations, production units and departments.

With the user-friendly IFS Enterprise Explorer interface, CYPC can produce personalised data query and data classification, enabling increased collaboration and efficiency. The system greatly enhances CYPC’s management capability in the Jinsha River cascade hydropower stations and forms a solid foundation for future operations.

Jan Brunaes, president of IFS Asia Pacific, presented CYPC with the IFS Enterprise Explorer Innovative Applications Award at the acceptance ceremony. “We are very pleased to announce the successful implementation of IFS Applications at CYPC’s hydropower stations. By working with leading companies such as CYPC, we continue to deliver best-practice industry solutions to reinforce our leading position within the global energy and utilities industry. CYPC is a dynamic company and we are looking forward to continuing to support their future growth,” Jan Brunaes said.

The rise of cloud computing has exposed hard drive-based storage as the new data center bottleneck. Combating this, data center managers have deployed SSDs to gain the performance needed to provide real-time access to data. However, due to budget constraints, many have turned to consumer-grade SSDs without understanding that they wear out quickly when processing enterprise workloads. In this session, Esther Spanjer will discuss recent endurance advancements in SSD technology that enable usage of...
