American Airlines Gives Travelers An Early Holiday Gift: New App For iPad, Updated App For iPhone And iPod Touch

New 'Know It All' Trivia Game Offers Chances to Win 100,000 AAdvantage Bonus Miles

FORT WORTH, Texas, Nov. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines today launched a new mobile app – its first app specifically designed for iPad – offering holiday travelers a superior user experience, enabled by the iPad's enhanced display and graphics, and new features including:

  • Flight information at a glance, with helpful options including seat changes, parking alerts, boarding passes and other flight details.
  • A more dynamic AAdvantage® section that allows users to view elite status qualification graphs that show how many miles, points and segments are needed to achieve a particular level of elite status. Users can also see total mileage balance and available upgrades.
  • An interactive globe that features all the destinations American flies and lets users select two cities to view specific flight schedules.
  • A free trivia game called "Know It All" that can be played on Wi-Fi-equipped flights or on the ground. The game allows customers to compete against fliers on their flight, other flights, or players on the ground. From Nov. 19 to Dec. 31, 2012, fans who have "liked" American's Facebook page can register for a chance to win a weekly drawing for 100,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles. In addition, registrants who have downloaded the iPad app and played Know It All will be featured on a Facebook leaderboard. Each week, the Know It All player with the top score will receive an extra entry for the 100,000 bonus miles.

American is also launching updates to its popular app for iPhone and iPod touch, which offer customers new AAdvantage program-specific features that locate nearby restaurants and retailers where members can earn AAdvantage miles. American's app for iPhone and iPod touch also includes support for Passbook, giving customers easy access to their mobile boarding passes throughout the travel process.
