Immersion’s HD Reverb Launches in NTT DOCOMO's Tablet "MEDIAS™ TAB UL N-08D"

Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq:IMMR), the leader in touch feedback technology development and licensing, today announced that the docomo Tablet MEDIAS TAB UL N-08D manufactured by NEC, is the first commercial implementation of Immersion’s HD Reverb software. HD Reverb automatically enhances games, videos and music by monitoring audio output and creating complementary haptic effects in real time. The 7-inch tablet, which also includes Immersion’s Integrator software, leverages next-generation HD Haptics technology using a high-fidelity piezo actuator combined with Immersion’s TouchSense® 5000 software to deliver crisp, realistic and nuanced touch effects.

“Our research shows that consumers familiar with standard haptics, commonly used for simple confirmation in button presses and touchscreen keyboards, are blown away by the capabilities of HD Haptics, particularly the experience HD Reverb delivers,” explains Chris Ullrich, Immersion’s vice president of user experience. “Immersion’s HD Haptics enable a much broader range of effects that provide precise and crisp confirmation, and can uniquely enhance content. Immersion’s HD Reverb software is specially designed to create compelling haptic effects that transform mobile content and produce exceptional engaging experiences.”

MEDIAS TAB UL N-08D tablet features a rigid, lightweight carbon fiber case optimized to produce full-body haptics, enabling users to experience effects not only when touching the screen, but while holding the tablet as well. Additionally, NEC is working with Immersion and developers to create content that incorporates haptic effects using Immersion’s Haptic SDK. The N-08D ships with SEGA’s Sonic CD™ game, which uses haptics to provide an enhanced gaming experience on the tablet.

“NEC is proud to launch the MEDIAS TAB UL N-08D as the world’s first device with HD Reverb and optimized to deliver an unprecedented touch experience,” explains Masakazu Yamashina, vice president and executive general manager, Personal Solutions Operations Unit, NEC. “We have created a true entertainment platform that makes mobile gaming, media and video more exciting – we plan to work closely with Immersion and developers to deliver unique content that takes advantage of the innovative HD Haptic platform.”

The MEDIAS TAB UL N-08D tablet will be available through NTT DOCOMO, INC. in Japan. More information on the tablet can be found at http://www.nttdocomo.com
