AJAX technology, which makes use of the JavaScript language and other Web standards, was first developed in the 1990s, but software developers have only recently recognized the revolutionary improvements that it makes possible for highly interactive Web applications. Through the integration of AJAX, Web applications can now rival the look, feel, and performance of desktop applications.
"AJAX enables tremendous improvements in the performance of Web applications by allowing the user's interaction with the Web application to occur asynchronously, independent of the browser's communication with the server that occurs in the background," said Victor Pinenkov, Vice President of Engineering. "By temporarily storing frequently-used information on a user's desktop, user actions such as displaying a calendar or composing an email can be handled in the background while the user continues to interact with the Web application."
This BlueTie software upgrade also introduces improvements to the user interface, including simplified, more intuitive composition and administrative controls, and improved message layouts. BlueTie plans to further integrate AJAX into the user interfaces of its contact, calendar, task list, and other collaborative tools for release in the first half of 2006.
