AJAX Technology Now Runs Wall Street Journal Online Edition, Updates The Journal's Main Page in Real-Time

Dow Jones Labs used Ajax technology to provide the Online Journal with refresh capabilities, making the site a leader

Dow Jones Labs used Ajax technology to provide the Online Journal with refresh capabilities, making the site a leader in embracing this new technology for real-time news display.

"We continually seek innovative new ways to provide our readers with the best user experience on the web," said Gail Griffin, general manager of The Wall Street Journal Online. "This effort is just one more way we ensure that the Online Journal is the premier subscription news Web site available."

The development of LiveNews by Dow Jones Labs is the latest in a series of market-leading innovations. Dow Jones Labs recently launched LiveQuotes on MarketWatch, which like WSJ.com is published by Dow Jones. LiveQuotes is an application of Ajax technology that automatically updates market information such as stock quotes.

Earlier this month, the Online Journal launched its first redesign of its home page since 2002 in order to enhance the site's ease of use, and added new options to its industry-leading personalization features.

Building on those changes, the site also plans to enhance its personalization significantly in the coming months. It will introduce a new technology that will allow readers to personalize the news that is most relevant to them. They can customize news from the Journal, MarketWatch and other news sources, as well as to save their news searches for easier access.

Users can learn more at www.WSJ.com/beta, and Online Journal subscribers can sign up for an email alert to be notified when the beta release becomes available.
