"We're pleased that EMC has chosen to integrate Documentum ECI Services with Google Desktop for Enterprise," said Dave Girouard, General Manager of Google Enterprise, as EMC Corporation today announced the addition of Google Desktop for Enterprise as the newest information source available to users through a single query within EMC Documentum Enterprise Content Integration (ECI) Services.
"Google is committed to working with EMC to provide customers the best solutions for searching and discovering content," he added.
Today's announcement, said the companies, represents a significant event for enterprise access to global content and rounds out the completion of ECI Services access across all Google search tools. This announcement also marks a strategic milestone between EMC and Google to give joint customers greater access to enterprise content.
"Now, not only can Documentum ECI Services customers gain access to information from a single inquiry from hundreds of information sources, but they can also leverage information from their desktops within the context of their most critical business processes," said Girouard. "Whether Documentum ECI Services is searching for information such as brand assets, R&D studies, or insurance claim documentation on the Web or on a user's desktop, it provides a single interface to retrieve and utilize that information."
Balaji Yelamanchili, Vice President and General Manager of Content Management, EMC Software Group explained, "EMC and Google have clear technology synergy. During 2004, we brought to market EMC Documentum ECI Services integrations with Google.com and Google Search Appliance. Today we're extending EMC's leading content integration capabilities to Google Desktop for Enterprise, offering customers another point of access to search content across all information types and repositories, both within and outside the enterprise."
"Today's announcement demonstrates EMC's dedication and continual commitment to helping customers deploy an information lifecycle management strategy," Yelamanchili added. "Whether it's developing products and solutions to improve the retention and archival of enterprise content or integrating its ECM technologies with leading enterprise search tools, EMC continues to improve the content management experience for its customers."
"In the past, we have used searches on internal systems and multiple external search services as separate processes to research client-related information. Using these processes can often be disconnected and require multiple queries to obtain the right search results," said Tony Bland, IS Strategy Manager at Linklaters. "As a leading global law firm, the ability to access the right information in the least amount of time is paramount. Documentum ECI Services searches content across hundreds of information sources in a single query and, with the addition of new Google search tools, can greatly reduce the time we spend on legal search and discovery."
Documentum ECI Services is a federated enterprise search solution that integrates content within and outside the enterprise, making searches more efficient and enabling end users to analyze and logically organize content results. By combining Documentum ECI Services with Google Desktop for Enterprise, users have a single point of access and an integrated user experience to search their local desktops in addition to a variety of internal and external information sources, regardless of whether the information resides in an application, database, Web site, or content management repository. Documentum ECI Services for Google Desktop for Enterprise will be available later this quarter.
On February 2, 2006, EMC and Google will host an online event that demonstrates how Documentum ECI Services powers user productivity to search desktop, Web and enterprise content. Registration information for this event can be found at http://www.emcsoftware-info.com/mk/get/02-02-06_Google_ECIS_LP.
