Blackberry recently pushed out another update of the OS for the Blackberry Bold, and it appears that wireless upgrades are still a problem. BlackBerry maker RIM has just posted another update for the phone, 4.6.0.297, that appears to be a set up patches on top of the previous upgrade.
Numerous users have reported problems with the previous release, version 4.6.0.167. Problems include: Inability to connect to the upgrade site; random reboots; and applications disappearing. Reports can be found on Blackberry’s site, as well as on independent message boards and blogs.
The latest release is a set of at least three patches to the OS as well as the Java Virtual Machine installed on the device. The initial warning screen suggests that the upgrade can take up to 2 hours. Data from our tests show it to take around 35-40 minutes. It does back up your data before the upgrade begins.
RIM was contacted for this article but did not respond to questions posed to them.
