Adaptec, Inc. today released the results of third-party performance testing of its new MaxIQ(TM) SSD Cache Performance Solution in MySQL environments. Cisco, EMC, VMware in Cloud Venture

Sometime before 4:30 Wednesday afternoon New York time Cisco and EMC, two companies that are already tight and were expected to get tighter, are supposed to announce a joint venture to sell a cloud or cloud products called vBlock. VMware's involved because virtualization is relatively standard cloud fare, it's majority owned by EMC and it's already Cisco's BFF but its level of participation in the venture is unclear despite all the whispering going on. It could be a full member. Based on broad hints from the companies, the Wall Street Journal got wind of the joint venture in September and said it was code named Alpine.

These technologies impact the organization's long-term plans, programs and initiatives. They may be strategic because they have matured to broad market use or because they enable strategic advantage from early adoption. “Companies should factor the top 10 technologies into their strategic planning process by asking key questions and making deliberate decisions about them during the next two years,” said David Cearley, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. “However, this does not necessarily mean adoption and investment in all of the technologies. They should determine which technologies will help and transform their individual business initiatives.”

IBM Hardware Chief, Intel VC Exec Arrested in Insider Trading Scam

IBM senior VP Robert Moffat, the head of IBM's Systems and Technology Group - in other words the guy who runs all of its hardware as well its microelectronics unit - and Intel Capital's director of strategic investment Rajiv Goel, one of its VC people, were arrested Friday morning on insider trading charges. They were alleged tipsters. The $20 million scam, involving AMD, Intel, IBM, Akamai, Clearwire and Google stock as well as Polycom's and Hilton Hotels', is said to be the biggest ever pulled off by a hedge fund and had the US Attorney, the FBI and the SEC doing a televised press conference on CNBC this afternoon.

Adobe Reader Sued

A New Jersey outfit called Textscape LLC sued Adobe in a California federal court last Friday claiming that Adobe's Acrobat Reader, which must be on every computer in the universe, treads on its patent for processing text. It's asking for unspecified damages. The widgetry involved lets users "obtain information in a body of text without reading the text." Apparently it creates a map box with a representation of the whole text when the text is too big for the screen.

Google, whose Chrome can claim all of 2.8% of the browser market, has come up with an open source plug-in that runs Chrome inside Microsoft's still dominant Internet Explorer. How's that for brass. It calls the thing Chrome Frame and says it works with IE6, 7 and 8 on Vista and XP SP2, but it's really supposedly targeted at the eight-year-old IE6 mandated by many companies.

RIAbiz.com recently discussed the findings of an August 24-25, 2009 Investment News survey conducted on the Twitter habits of the financial-advisory community. Not surprisingly the survey reveals that "a mere 14.9% of financial advisers say they communicate with clients or colleagues through Twitter. Meanwhile, only 44.9% and 43.8% of advisers say they use LinkedIn and Facebook, respectively, the survey found".

This Bing Thing Is Working

Microsoft’s share of U.S. searches jumped 22.1% in August to 10.7% of the market to Google’s 64.6%, up 2.6%, and Yahoo’s 16%, according to Nielsen. Yahoo was down 4.2%. Microsoft was up from 9% in July. That’s a sequential leap of 22.1% for Microsoft’s newfangled Bing search machine, backed by a $100 million marketing budget. Microsoft hasn’t begun to spend that kind of money overseas yet promoting the widgetry. It does have HP and Lenovo PCs defaulting to Bing.

EC Wrong, Wrong, Wrong – and Sloppy to Boot: Intel

Intel’s appeal to the Court of First Instance of the European Commission’s monopoly abuse decision against it claims that the EC didn’t prove that it hammered AMD into the ground with its discounts. According to a summary of the otherwise sealed appeal published over the weekend in the Official Journal of the European Union, Intel says that the EC made an error of law in assuming that its discounts were per se abusive simply because they were conditional.

Adobe To Spend $1.8 Billion on Omniture

Adobe said Tuesday during its earnings call that it’s buying publicly held Utah-based Omniture for ~$1.8 billion cash. It’s not your most instantly intuitive acquisition ever and it’s costing a pretty penny at that. Adobe didn’t explain to its own people where the web researcher fit. Omniture, whose 5,000 clients include Disney, Apple, GM, Wal-Mart and Time Warner, is a web traffic analysis ISV and will apparently let the media folk and designers who use, say, Adobe’s Flash widgetry and its all-important but poorly selling, recession-hit Creative Suite see how effective their work is. It expects its addressable market to expand to marketing types

US Post Office Hops a Ride on NetSuite’s Cloud
