Struts Portlets with AJAX in Action

The Struts Framework from Apache is a very popular, robust Web application framework. Many corporate companies have deployed tons of Web applications using Struts. And they hit the ground with abundant technical resources. They can develop newer applications quickly. Portal implementations offer a new challenge by introducing new frameworks and APIs. To leverage existing assets and skills, WebSphere Portal supports the Struts Portlet Framework so Struts Web applications can be easily migrated to a portal.  AJAX, or Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, is a new happening technology to make Web applications function like client/server applications. I mean Web pages triggering requests based on events (asynchronously) that refresh only specific parts of a page as opposed to refreshing the whole page. The Struts Framework There's tons of information on Struts, AJAX, and the S... (more)

Flash Is Now A Platform, AIR Gets An Upgrade, And Adobe Puts A Catalyst In Gumbo

Realizing that Flash is a better name than Flex for a platform, Adobe is now referring to everything it does related to Flash (including the Flash Player, Adobe AIR, Flex developer tools, and Flash media servers) as the Flash Platform. That’s what I’ve been calling it anyway, so I’m glad they finally caught up. Beyond the marketing shift, Adobe will be making some more significant announcements at its MAX developer conference this week. Here’s a summary: 1. Release of Adobe AIR 1.5. The Adobe AIR client now has better performance and memory handling, but most importantly it supports Flash Player 10 and Webkit (which is what the mobile browsers in both the iPhone and Android are based on). Flash Player 10 means more 3-d graphics. This version of AIR will also include an encrypted database that should appeal to developers of enterprise apps. 2. Flash Catalyst and Gu... (more)

NEW: Google Unveils Search Upgrade - Longer Listings and Better Relevance

Google announced a new range of enhancements to its organic search results on Tuesday which will improve relevance and the user experience. Unlike recent tweaks and tests, these SERP changes aren’t being launched under the beta banner. It would appear (at this stage) that they’ll be a permanent modification to the result pages. The enhancements are essentially two fold 1. Longer Listing Snippets Users who providing multi word (more than 4 term) searches will often be presented with longer snippets in the search results pages. According to Google: When you enter a longer query, with more than three words, regular-length snippets may not give you enough information and context. In these situations, we now increase the number of lines in the snippet to provide more information and show more of the words you typed in the context of the page. The increased snippet size ... The Reality of Software Testing in an Agile Environment

Introduction The definition of agile testing can be described as follows: "Testing practice for projects using agile technologies, treating development as the customer of testing and emphasizing a test-first design philosophy. In agile development, testing is integrated throughout the lifecycle, testing the software throughout its development."* Agile is a methodology that is seeing increasingly widespread adoption and it is easy to understand why-especially if you consider the developer and user point of view. Users: Don't want to spend ages being quizzed in detail about the exact requirements and processes for the whole system, and then have to review a large specification, which they know could come back to haunt them. Developers: Don't want to have to follow a tight specification, without any expression of their own imagination and creative talents, especially if... (more)

A Bard Approach to Learning Technology

In Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night', Malvolio receives a letter containing the words: 'Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.' Substitute 'e-learning', in all its forms, for 'greatness' and you have a similarly apt observation on technology-delivered learning. Some organisations take to e-learning as though they were born to it. Staffordshire University, one of UK academia's first users of learning management systems (LMSs) - or, as they are known in the academic world, virtual learning environments (VLEs) - is not only upgrading  its Giunti Labs' HarvestRoad Hive digital repository (DR)and Blackboard VLE  but is also exploring the issues involved in making its 'stock' of learning content freely available. This revolutionary project, made possible by the joint use of the HarvestRoad Hive DR and... (more)

CloudEXPO Stories
The precious oil is extracted from the seeds of prickly pear cactus plant. After taking out the seeds from the fruits, they are adequately dried and then cold pressed to obtain the oil. Indeed, the prickly seed oil is quite expensive. Well, that is understandable when you consider the fact that the seeds are really tiny and each seed contain only about 5% of oil in it at most, plus the seeds are usually handpicked from the fruits. This means it will take tons of these seeds to produce just one bottle of the oil for commercial purpose. But from its medical properties to its culinary importance, skin lightening, moisturizing, and protection abilities, down to its extraordinary hair care properties, prickly seed oil has got lots of excellent rewards for anyone who pays the price.
